Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park

US Highway 160 & US Hwy 163, Oljato-Monument Valley, Arizona, 84536

The Basics

Monument Valley belongs to the Navajo Nation, and much of the area is only accessible with a visitor’s permit or with a Navajo guide, so most travelers explore the valley on a tour. Check out the famous rock features, including Mystery Valley, Tear Drop Arch, John Ford’s Point, and the Mittens; and enjoy hiking, horseback riding, and off-roading. The park also offers opportunities to learn about the Navajo; you can take a spirit and culture tour, or enjoy a traditional music performance at Big Hogan, a large natural amphitheater.

Tours of the area range from 2-hour scenic drives to multi-day adventures that include other nearby attractions and national parks. Some start in Monument Valley, while others depart from Phoenix, Flagstaff, or Sedona.

The Stories Within Monument Valley
This tour was absolutely spectacular! Our tour guide, Tony Begay, was the best - very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. He explained so many aspects of this valley and made sure everyone had a great time! The whole experience was fabulous, and the back country tour gave us a chance to see and learn even more about the significance of each mesa, butte & spiral! I would HIGHLY recommend this tour, and Tony as your guide!

Monument Valley Tour
We had a wonderful time. Our tour guide Travis did an exceptional job showing us around and sharing his inspiring stories. Travis made it a once-in-a-lifetime experience with his native music (flute and drum) and songs. Highly recommended!

3.5 Hours of Monument Valley's Cultural 4×4 Tour
We had Joe as a tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and told us where to get the best photos. He explained a lot about the Navajo history, culture, and very interesting stories about some of the sights on the tour. Ours was a 3 1/2 hour tour would not recommend anything less! On my next visit to Monument Valley I will request to have Joe as our tour guide!

Monument Valley Extended Backcountry Tour
The tour was absolutely worth it. You get access to areas you normally would not be able to go to. Being in the vehicle surprisingly doesn’t take away from the experience. Larry Team, our guide, was amazing at what he did. He knew a lot of interesting facts and set the mood in the places we stopped at. You’d be lucky to have him show you around.

Monument Valley Day Tour from Flagstaff
First I was very happy there were enough participants for the tour to take place. Seeing Monument Valley was an amazing experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and a safe driver. He was very patient and never rushed us. He just has to be cautious of his audience with his narrative. I am very thankful I took this tour. Enjoyed every place we visited.

Sunset Tour of Monument Valley
Better than expected. Our tour guide Larry was a Native American and gave a great tour. Would highly recommend even if you decide to drive the loop on your own. The tour goes places you can’t get to from your car.

3-Day National Parks Tour: Zion, Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley and Grand Canyon
Our young Bindlestiff guides, Spencer and Kaitlyn, we’re great. All of our stops were incredible. It was a whirlwind tour of 5 of the most beautiful places on earth. Ideally would want to spend a day or two at Zion.
