A must for gearheads, the Mille Miglia Museum is home to a vast collection of historic cars and racing memorabilia from the decades after 1927 when the first race was held, along with items showcasing Italian history. Watch footage of past Mille Miglia races and see race photographs. The cars on display change periodically, especially when the race is held in June.
Book your ticket in advance to avoid the line, or join a tour from Milan or Bergamo that includes a guided walk through the collection.
The Mille Miglia is located in the Monastery of St. Eufemia complex just east of Brescia. It can be reached from the city center by car or via buses 3 and 11 that depart from the city’s central train station. To avoid the hassle of driving or coordinating your own public transportation, join a tour from Milan or Bergamo that includes public transportation.
The museum is open daily, year-round, and is especially fun to visit when the Mille Miglia race is held each June as the museum often organizes special events and exhibits and switches out the cars on display.
Mille Miglia, also known as the Red Arrow Race because of the markers used on the route, started as a 1,000-mile (1,600-kilometer) open-road race held competitively from 1927 to 1957. Now it's an amateur time-trial event open to vehicles produced no later than 1957. Its historic winners drove cars produced by Ferrari, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo before they became iconic, and vintage car enthusiasts visit today to participate in the June road rally.
