All about Fajardo
When to visit
Summer is the most popular time to visit Fajardo, but it’s also the hottest. The most important holiday of the year is July 25th, when the town honors its patron saint with the Fiesta de Santiago Apóstol. Spring is less crowded and also more comfortable—milder but still warm enough that you can comfortably kayak, canyon, and snorkel. Music festivals, cycling races, a kite festival, a regatta, and many other local events are held in April and May.
Getting around
Fajardo does not have reliable public transportation and is easiest to explore by renting a car or booking local taxis. Many hotels also offer affordable shuttles to the town’s top sights, including El Yunque National Park, Bio Bay, and the most popular beaches. Taxis and hotel shuttles also service the San Juan Airport and the Port of Fajardo, where you can catch a ferry or boat to nearby islands.
Traveler tips
Fajardo is home to two mesones gastronómicos, traditional restaurants that have been officially recognized for their authentic criollo (Puerto Rican creole) dishes. If you want to sample classic Puerto Rican staples like rice and beans, mofongo, tostones, and other specialties, make a beeline to upscale Pasión por el Fogón, located by Playa Sardinera, or to the more casual Star Fish Restaurant, which is on the grounds of the Fajardo Inn Resort.
