Galway Bay

Galway Bay, Ireland

The Basics

Day tours of Galway Bay depart from Dublin and Galway City, and typically provide round-trip transport. Most excursions stop at key attractions along the Wild Atlantic Way, such as the Irish-speaking seaside village of Spiddal (An Spidéal), the 16th-century Dunguaire Castle, and the Cliffs of Moher. Multi-day voyages often combine a visit to Galway Bay with a trip to the Aran Islands, other parts of Ireland (e.g. County Limerick), or Northern Ireland.

Our guide John B was a wonderful driver and guide. The cliffs of Mother were a beautiful site! We learned so much about the region and its history from John.

Cliffs of Moher Tour Including Wild Atlantic Way and Galway City from Dublin
This tour was incredible. The team was very well organized and punctual. The bus was clean, comfortable, had usb port for phones, and free wifi. Rory and Sarah are the best, the journey was filled with fun facts, history, and lots of humor. Rory even gave us restaurant, activities and even movie recommendations! I would 100% take this tour again.

The tour was awesome! The driver made me feel safe, and the tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of our stops as well as our safety. The Cliffs of Moher were amazing and Galway was fun. It felt like a long day but we got to see a lot.

Overall a good tour for the money. The guide Richard was excellent and Gabriel the driver was quite good too. The bus was new and clean. The Wi-Fi was a bit spotty. I wouldn’t plan on it. The bus is also a bit cramped for me but I am 6’5” so it seemed fine for most others.

Private Cliffs of Moher experience, Galway bay and West of Ireland adventure
Despite the bad weather Eamonn made sure we had a great time. Strongly recommended experience. We had a great lunch, tasted some whiskey and listened to music and stories. All was capped with a shot of Kilbeggan. We would do it again if we had the time.

Sara and Paulo were awesome. Sara was very sweet and kept us entertained. The bus ride was nice - not too bad of a drive. I appreciated having plenty of time to explore both the cliffs and Galway.

Incredible tour! Thanks to Sara and Patrick, we haven’t feel at all the hours spent in the bus, the drive was very smooth and Sara is so interesting, the time is passing very fast. I will definitely come back one day and do more tours with this company and hopefully with Sara and Patrick ❤️❤️❤️ Best experience in Ireland !

When to Get There

The bay, especially the parts in and around Galway City, is busiest and most vibrant in summer. Get there early in the day to experience the bay at its most peaceful. Sunrise and sunset are particularly pretty.

Spotting Galway Hookers

Gaze out across the bay and you may spot a Galway hooker, a traditional boat native to the area. Identifiable by their black bases and dark red sails, Galway hookers were designed to withstand the bay’s often rough seas. During the Cruinniú na mBád festival in August, these distinctive local boats can be seen sailing a route between Connemara and Kinvara.
