Flower Clock (Horloge Fleurie)
The Basics
The Flower Clock (l'horloge fleurie) is a worthwhile stop in Geneva, and because of its popularity, the clock is included on most city tours. Too see more of Geneva in less time, book a city tour that stops at the Flower Clock along with other top attractions. Several tours include visits to nearby cities, like Annecy and Chamonix, and may include a cruise. For adventurous travelers, Segway tours often pass by the Flower Clock.
Things to Know Before You Go
- Gardeners should visit the clock while flowers are blooming, any time between early spring and autumn.
- The clock was created in 1955 to celebrate Geneva's watchmaking tradition, so it's a must-see for watch enthusiasts.
- The Flower Clock is a top Geneva destination—and a popular spot for photos—so expect crowds during peak tourist season, and on weekends.
- The flower clock is open daily, and is free to visit.
How to Get There
The Flower Clock is located on the Quai du Général-Guisan, at the foot of the Mont Blanc Bridge. It's a short walk from a nearby shopping area—on Rue de la Croix-d'Or—and just down the hill from Geneva's Old Town. If you don't want to walk, you can always take public transit. Hop on the 12 tram, and get off at the Rive stop. The clock is just north of the stop, on Lake Geneva.
Trip ideas
When to Get There
The Flower Clock is a great destination when flowers are in bloom. Since it's composed of many flower varieties, the clock changes color throughout the year. You should visit between early spring, and late autumn to catch the blossoms. To avoid peak tourist season, in July and August, consider booking travel in June or September, when the weather is still warm.
Walking through the English Garden
Though it may be the main draw for many travelers, the Flower Clock is just one feature of Geneva's verdant English Garden. Take a few minutes for a leisurely stroll through the park to enjoy stunning views of the Jet d'Eau, busts of local artists, and a stately copper fountain. The English Garden is the perfect place to sit in the grass, enjoy a coffee, and rejuvenate with water views.
