Hoover Dam

Daily 9am - 5pm
Hwy. 93, Boulder City

The Basics

The dam is a popular day-trip destination from Las Vegas and transportation options range from comedy buses, Hummers, and mountain bikes. On-site, tour the power plant, learn how the dam generates and distributes electricity, and see stunning views of the surrounding riverways, canyons, and valleys. Some tours even combine a Hoover Dam visit with shooting range stops, excursions to the Grand Canyon’s West Rim, or a cruise on Lake Mead. Want a bird’s-eye view? Opt for a flightseeing helicopter tour instead.

Grand Canyon West Rim Bus Tour & Hoover Dam Photo Stop with Optional Skywalk
Clean and modern bus. Friendly staff. Andrew and Lala were great hosts. Nice meals provided. It was very foggy so Grand Canyon was a disappointment; not their fault! Hoover Dam was impressive.

While this is a long trip it has great scenery and the stops at The Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon were great. Route 66 was interesting. I was unable to walk the trail at the Grand Canyon but my sister did and she loved it and got some great pictures.

Hoover Dam Experience from Las Vegas
Small group tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly but also prone to providing facts and commentary that were questionable and derogatory to some of our party. Detracted from the trip and the tip which was a shame because touring the Hoover Dam was amazing.

When to Get There

Because of the stifling desert heat in summer, spring and fall are the best times to visit the Hoover Dam. Expect long lines and heavy traffic on summer weekends; opt for an early morning visit to avoid crowds.

Inside Hoover Dam

A Hoover Dam tour features much more than just a 726-foot (221-meter) wall. Explore tunnels that were bored directly into the mountainside, hear the harrowing tales of workers who carved them out by hand, and tour the power plant. The Hoover Dam Visitor Center offers even more info about America’s most famous dam.
