Stonehenge

Junction of A303 and A344/360, England

The Basics

Entrance to Stonehenge is via timed ticket. You’ll be able to view the stones from a few meters away, and shuttle transportation between the observation areas is included with entry. Access to the stones is limited to 30 minutes, but you can spend as long as you like exploring the site’s visitor center. If you want to visit the Inner Circle and walk among the stones, you’ll need to book a special tour outside of public opening hours. Day tours from London are often combined with nearby attractions such as Oxford, Windsor Castle, Bath, Stratford-Upon-Avon, or the Cotswolds.

Inner Circle Access of Stonehenge including Bath and Lacock Day Tour from London
This is the way to see Stonehenge. The experience of being up close and inside it is really special. Just looking from the outside would have not have been same. Our Tour Guide was very nice, knowledgeable and organized. Transportation was easy and clean. The other features Bath and Lacock were very neat as well, but the star is going inside Stonehenge.

Stonehenge and Bath Day Trip from London
A very well organized trip. Very comfortable clean bus that leaves from a convenient location. Great sights (both Stonehenge and Bath are very interesting places to visit), plenty of time to explore at a comfortable pace. Amazing tour guide Andrew who went above and beyond his duties by making sure people knew exactly how to get home from the drop off point. Great experience overall.

Inner Circle Access of Stonehenge including Bath and Lacock Day Tour from London
Frank the tour guide was knowledgeable and hilarious. It was an extraordinary experience that I think anyone would enjoy. Getting up early was tough but being in the middle of Stonehenge was fantastic! The rest of the trip was so delightful. Everyone in the family enjoyed this experience greatly. We had Chris as our storyteller guide at Stonehenge. He could answer all of our questions. The entire experience was a once in a lifetime event.

London to Stonehenge Shuttle Bus and Independent Day Trip
This was a great trip. Highly recomend. Stonehenge was amazing to see in person, followed by a day of wandering the City of Bath was the perfect way to get out of London and shop, and take in history and eat. Do it! A+++

It was beautiful to see so many historic parts in one day! Windsor to Stonehenge to finally Oxford was a great trip! Transportation was smooth and honestly made it nice to have those few hours in between to rest. Our tour guide Carmen was great! And bonus she spoke Spanish which helped my mom a lot! Def worth it to do!

Small Group Stonehenge, Bath and Secret Place Tour from London
Tony was a wealth of knowledge and it was delivered in a very conversational and kid friendly way. Every stop was a highlight, but seeing "Harry Potter's house" blew my kids mind. We saw Stonehenge and Bath, highly recommend.

Stonehenge and Bath Day Trip from London
Peter was an amazing guide. Funny, cleaver and knowledgeable. He made the bus trip very entertaining. We had only 1h in Stonehenge, but honestly, it was enough. We had 4h in bath and could use more. It is really nice and deserves at least 2 days. The bus was nice and clean.

Windsor, Stonehenge and Bath Trip from London
Great trip to get an overview of these areas. I could do a whole day in each, now that I know them. Alan, our guide, did an awesome job, he was funny and full of information. Roberto, our driver, was an expert driving that big bus through narrow streets and roads. I would have spent less time in Stonehenge to get another 30 minutes in Windsor, we didn’t get to go in St. George’s. Next visit.

How to Get There

Stonehenge is located about 88 miles (142 kilometers) southwest of London, which is about two hours by road. Most tours include round-trip transportation from London and offer pick-up from your hotel or a central location. It’s also possible to take a paid shuttle bus from Salisbury rail station.

When to Get There

Stonehenge is open all year round, but the most atmospheric time to visit is during the summer or winter solstice, when a huge party celebrates the longest and shortest days of the year, and entrance is free. Although visits are timed, it can get crowded in summer, so arrive early or opt for a sunrise or sunset tour to experience the landmark at its most photogenic.
