Calle Mercado # 1, Barrio Xaltocan, Xochimilco

The Basics

The floating gardens of Xochimilco make an easy half-day trip from Mexico City, and the quintessential way to explore is a traditionaltrajinera boat ride around the Xochimilco canals and islands. Xochimilco tours are often combined with a Mexico City sightseeing tour, visits to historic sites such as the National University of Mexico or the ancient ruins of Teotihuacan, or a tour of the Coyoacán neighborhood, where highlights include the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum and the Frida Kahlo Museum.

Frida Kahlo's House, Coyoacan and Xochimilco - All Day Tour
This was a wonderful day trip to the southern part of Mexico City. Coyacan was a beautiful historical town. Frida Kahlo's house was a nice walk through which gave insight into the artist. Xochimilco boat ride was nice, but the canal was very crowded with boats on the day we went. Bring pesos for the food and drink on the ship. Francisco was a great tour guide.

Teotihuacan & Guadalupe Shrine + Xochimilco, Coyoacán & Frida Kahlo Combo Tour
This was a great experience! The day trip to the pyramids and Guadalupe shrine was stellar. Good pacing and riding in the bus was very comfortable. I loved seeing Xochimilco (bring small bills/coins for treats on the boat ride) and the Friday Kahlo tour.

Coyoacán, Xochimilco
Xochimilco is a much talked about destination and I was glad to be able to visit. Our driver and guide were both very professional. We had plenty of time at each stop that we made, however we did make more stops then mentioned in the description of this tour, including a silver shop, the university, and a few stadiums along the way. The mole aboard the boat in Xochimilco was by far my favorite.

Private City Tour in Frida Kahlo, Coyoacan, and Xochimilco
Eduardo picked us up at our hotel right on time and took us to Xochimilco, the Frida Kahlo museum, and lovely tour through Coyoacan. We loved eating the elote and chayote on the water and the lunch recommendation. Eduardo made it a special experience. We will do it again with children and friends next time!

Tour of Xochimilco and The World of Frida Kahlo
This was our second time in two years to Xochimilco. Although it was a group tour, just my friend and I had booked it, so our guide, Ricardo, could tailor it to our wishes. We enjoyed the Coyocan market and walked the whole thing, buying fruits and souvenirs and having fun. We decided to forgo the Blue House since we visited last year. We spent an extra hour at Xochimilco and Ricardo also drove us through the plant market next door. Nice!

This is a great way to see a few must see site on your visit to Mexico City. The bus is clean and comfortable, with outlets for charging your devices. The tour guides are friendly, knowledgeable and bilingual. Lunch was somewhat underwhelming, served buffet-style at a local restaurant.

Xochimilco, Coyoacán and Frida Kahlo Museum Tour
We had a great time on this tour. Our guide was great and we stayed on schedule (other than some traffic that couldn’t be avoided). The bus was comfortable and clean. The boats were a bit chaotic but in a charming way!

The Floating Gardens of Xochimilco

Xochimilco’s floating gardens are the last vestige of Mexico’s elaboratechinampas—the agricultural system set up by the ancient Aztecs. Devised to make the most of the fertile lake lands of the Anahuac Valley, thechinampas are comprised of small, man-made islands of farmland linked by a network of canals. Though most of the Aztecs' massive system of canals have long since been drained, the suburb of Xochimilco offers a glimpse into the ancient beauty of Tenochtitlán, and the remarkably preserved site is now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
