The Temple of San Biagio was built by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder, illustrious architect from Florence, between 1518 and 1545. Located in the middle of a sprawling meadow outside the town, the church is considered a masterpiece of 16th century Tuscan Renaissance architecture. The Church of the Madonna di San Biagio, with a Greek cross plan, central dome and semicircular apse, is flanked by two bell towers, of which only the one on the left was completed accomplished. It is entirely covered in travertine stone. Inside, the only wall with numerous decorative elements is the one corresponding to the main altar where there is a large marble dossal at the centre of which a fresco depicting the Madonna and Child and St. Francis is inserted. In front of the church is the harmonious building of the rectory, with two beautiful loggias, executed around the 1550.

Montepulciano gave birth to Poliziano, poet and secretary of Lorenzo the Magnificent and we will pass under his house .. The elegant town is full of patrician houses and Renaissance churches and we will visit the Piazza Grande natural theater of many events. Its incredible medieval cellars carved into the rock beneath the noble palaces have for centuries been the place of aging for the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG. Let's discover together the surprising beauties of this small city of art - It is also possible to make an exciting URBAN TREKKING from San Biagio to Porta a Prato and back, with a visit to the medieval cellars (due to restrictions covid 19 the entrances to the cellars could be regulated)

The departure begins and ends in my Fattoria Madonna della Querce, next to the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Querce in Montepulciano. Here I breed Cinta Senese pigs, a type of black pig with a white belt, of Tuscan origins and very ancient. We will take a short walk among the olive trees and the vineyard to get to the pigs, which are free, separated by an electric fence. We can walk with them, touch them and take pictures. Lunch is included in the experience and includes a menu with: Bruschetta, ribollita in winter and panzanella in summer, platter with our cured meats, pecorino di Pienza cheeses with jams, cantucci and vinsanto, water, house wine, espresso coffee.
