Giverny

Rue Claude Monet, Giverny, 27620

The Basics

The best way to visit Giverny is on a day trip from Paris. All tours cover Monet's home (Maison et Jardins de Claude Monet)—a pastel-pink house flanked by gardens filled with flowers and a famous Japanese bridge—and the Museum of Impressionisms (Musee des Impressionnismes), dedicated to various forms of impressionist painting.

Other tours combine Giverny and Monet’s house with a visit to the Palace of Versailles or Auvers-sur-Oise, the village in which Vincent van Gogh spent his final days. Garden bike tours are another option for active travelers.

Le Havre Shore Excursion: Private Tour of Giverny, Rouen and Honfleur
Lucie, our guide, was charming, informational, and attentive to our priorities. We spent longer in Giverny than we probably should have, since she was able to provide us with a wonderful lunch spot that took extra time. (What a wonderful surprise!) Had a short visit to Honfleur, but all was perfect for our day's adventure! Just need to come back and spend time in Rouen & Honfleur.

The driver was very courteous, and the service (door-to-door pick-up and drop-off) was prompt and efficient. The scenery around Giverny is breathtaking, and Monet's house is an icon of brilliance, beauty and dedicated labor. I have traveled across the world, but seldom have I seen anything more beautiful.

Versailles Palace & Giverny Private Guided Tour with Lunch - Priority Access
Our guide, Zara, was awesome. Very knowledgeable. Our second visit to Giverny. The private tour really enhances the experience. We visited Versailles first. Skipped all lines with private entrance. She was able to get us in before the crowds. Very flexible with free time. Lunch at Giverny was delicious and in a garden setting.

Giverny & Monet's House From Paris Audio Guided Half-day Tour
We went immediately to the Lily pond and could have stayed there the whole time. We were just captured by the gentle flowing Epte River embellished by vibrant fall colors. The green bridges were themselves a delight. The home of Monet was a wonderful addition. To walk in his colorful rooms was a gift. We particularly loved the bright yellow dining area. How warm it must have felt in the morning sun. We could return again and again to Giverny—-and will for sure in our mind’s eye.

Private Giverny Tour for 3-4 persons, Pick up & drop incl
What an excellent morning tour of Giverny! Phillip was our driver and picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel. He was friendly and an excellent driver. He shared a lot of interesting facts en route, and then took us to the start of the tour to orient us. We were on our own for 2 hours and enjoyed the beautiful gardens. I highly recommend this tour and Phillip!!

Giverny Monet s House and Gardens Skip-the-Line Ticket with small Group
This trip was wonderful. We had an amazing driver, who talked to us about Paris as we drove through it, and then also showed us an informative video about Giverny. We were given enough time at Monet's house to look at everything--the astounding gardens, the lake with its water lilies, the house itself with more art. I felt like I was given an opportunity for a deeper understanding of Monet, his times, and also the other Impressionists. I cherished our time in Giverny.

Giverny Monet s House and Gardens Skip-the-Line Ticket with small Group
The visit to Giverny was magical. gardens were lovely even at the end of October. Great to leave Paris early to beat the crowds that arrive later in the morning…Know what you are buying: hotel pickup, driver to Giverny, a ticket to the house/grounds, a ride back and drop off at our hotel. This is not a guided visit…We loved it. Very happy.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • A Giverny tour is ideal for art enthusiasts, especially impressionism fams.

  • The journey to Giverny, along the banks of the Seine River and through the sunflower fields of Normandy, is almost as good as the destination.

  • There are no ATMs or currency exchange bureaus in the village, so be sure to bring cash.

  • Although accommodations are available, the village's small size means availability is limited; book in advance if you plan on staying overnight.

  • Giverny and Monet's Garden are partly accessible for wheelchair users although Monet's House is not.

How to Get There

When to Get There

Between November and Easter weekend, Monet's house and the majority of Giverny's restaurants and guesthouses are closed to the public. Although very busy in the summer months, large tour groups fail to make the hamlet any less beautiful. Arrive early for the best experience.

Claude Monet, Giverny's Most Famous Resident

Claude Monet—known for La Grenouillère, the Water Lilies series, and Impressionism, soleil levant—lived in Giverny between 1883 and his death in 1926. He was also the founder of impressionism, with the movement's name deriving from one of his paintings. Fans of his work shouldn't miss the chance to visit his well-preserved house in Giverny.
