Notre Dame Cathedral

6 Place du Parvis Notre Dame, Paris, 75004

The Basics

Notre Dame's immense interior—with its fluted columns, ribbed vaults, and prismatic windows—is a fantastic example of French Gothic architecture. Guided tours that include skip-the-line entry are the best way to visit the cathedral; not only will you avoid long lines, but your guide's expertise will ensure you notice even subtle details.

The cathedral can also be visited as part of a full-day Paris sightseeing tour—itineraries typically cover places such as the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, and Montmartre, or include a Seine River cruise, and provide insight into the history and culture of France.

This was an amazing trip. The sights were awesome.. but what made it truly unforgettable was our guide, Victor Hugo. He was so patient, knowledgeable, and willing to teach us about French history. He was one of the best tour guides we’ve ever had. We hope to see him again!

Paris Highlights from Notre Dame to Eiffel Tower
Matthew was the consummate guide. He walked us around Paris for four hours sharing his knowledge and anecdotes about the many sites we walked by. We learned so much from him and enjoyed all he had to say. It was the perfect way to get to know the city.

Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle Private Tour - Skip the line & Local Expert Guide
Excellent trip and guide! Our guide met us on time, truly had a passion for the history of the city/architecture/buildings and made it very enjoyable for all. We have two daughters and the youngest said “Dad, I don’t usually like that stuff but Romain was great and the tour was awesome”. He gave us other options to see and was truly excellent. Well worth the tour!

We were traveling during COVID with a group of 20 students. Mauritzio was incredible and did a fantastic job. He entertained 20 teenagers and kept them engaged for 2 hours. Very impressed and would definitely book again.

When to Get There

In the evening, the square before the cathedral comes to life in a riot of music and performance. Watch street performers juggle fire, grab a bite from a vendor, or simply admire Notre Dame illuminated by night. If visiting Paris in winter, head to Notre Dame right before closing to watch the sunset and see the City of Light twinkle.

Gothic Paris

Notre Dame Cathedral may be one of the most famous examples of French Gothic architecture in the capital, but it's far from the only one. Explore more Parisian Gothic at the Cluny Museum, home to half a dozen impressive wall hangings; head to Saint Chapelle to admire some of the most beautiful medieval stained glass; or stop by Sainte Severin in the fifth arrondissement.
