Odéon-Théatre de l'Europe
The Basics
The Odéon-Théatre de l'Europe is a spectacular place to catch a show while you’re in Paris. Since performances are scheduled from Tuesday through Sunday, it’s worth planning ahead to see if the week’s offerings catch your interest. While attending an event is the best way to see the interior of the theater, the building’s noteworthy exterior can be viewed on some walking tours of the Left Bank.
Things to Know Before You Go
A must for theater buffs, the Odéon-Théatre de l'Europe has hosted historic performances that include Shakespeare and Beckett.
Located in the public foyer, the theater’s café opens prior to scheduled performances.
Certain performances accommodate people who are hearing impaired or visually impaired, but it’s worth contacting the theater for information about specific events.
Access for visitors with reduced mobility is through Place Paul Claudel, behind the theater; the theater requests that guests with accessibility needs call prior to the performance.
How to Get There
Located in the 6th arrondissement on the Left Bank in Paris, the theater faces the Place de l’Odéon. The nearest metro stop, Odéon (lines 4 and 10), is a 4-minute walk away, and bus lines 58, 63, 70, 86, 87, and 96 all stop nearby.

When to Get There
Regularly scheduled performances at the Odéon-Théatre de l'Europe take place Tuesday through Saturday at 8pm, with 3pm matinees on Sundays. Due to security checks, the theater recommends arriving at least 30 minutes before the show—late arrivals are not admitted. Arriving early is worthwhile anyway, since people watching from a café table in the foyer is a great way to enjoy the pre-show buzz.
Where to Eat Nearby
While the café at the theater is a charming place to sip a drink, there are appealing options nearby as well. Head into Place de l’Odéon to enjoy French fare at Le Café de l’Odéon, or visit La Coop, a charming cheese and wine shop. Another nearby favorite is Treize, serving light meals, including plenty of vegetarian-friendly options, indoors or on their smoke-free terrace.
