Via Capo
For one of the most spectacular views in Sorrento, follow Corso Italia west from the center of town as it becomes the panoramic Via Capo. Lined with lovely hotels and tiny beaches, this winding road makes for a scenic stroll or gateway to the lesser crowded coastline outside Sorrento’s busy center.
The Basics
Combine a stroll along Via Capo or a swim at one of the beaches along the cape with a small-group walking tour of Sorrento’s top attractions, including its charming old-town lanes lined with artisan workshops and boutiques, the historic Basilica di Sant’Antonino and Church of San Francesco, Marina Piccola, and Piazza Tasso. Sorrento is a popular destination for day trips from Naples and the Amalfi Coast.
Things to Know Before You Go
The views from Via Capo are stellar, so be sure to bring your camera.
There is very little shade along the route, so sunscreen, a hat, and water are must-haves in summer.
If you’re looking for less crowded beaches, the tiny coves along Via Capo are ideal.
Portions of Via Capo do not have sidewalks and are not accessible to wheelchair users.
How to Get There
Via Capo begins at the far west end of Sorrento’s main Corso Italia. If arriving by ferry from Marina Piccola, walk up the hill or take a local bus or taxi. If arriving by train or bus, walk west down Corso Italia from the transport hub in Piazza Tasso.

When to Get There
Temperatures can be oppressive in southern Italy at midday during the summer months, so take this scenic walk either early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the worst of the heat.
The Best Beaches along Via Capo
In addition to sweeping views over the Bay of Naples, Sorrento, and the dramatic white limestone cliffs, Via Capo offers access to a number of picturesque beaches. Marina di Puolo is a small cove with fishing boats and little restaurants, and the Villa Romana Pollio sits on a rocky outcrop with walkways wrapped around the ruins of an ancient villa.
