The only Carrara marble tour that allows you to get in a real cave. Nice to meet you! We are drivers and tour leaders... we would like to show you an hidden gem of Tuscany! I will pick you up with my professional van from the area of Lucca or Pisa and I will bring you up on the mountain of Carrara. We will reach the cave and we will jump in a 4x4 Jeep that can drive us inside. A professional tour guide will explain you everything about the story of this legendary place: not only how they work and they extract the marble, but also how they are producing a special wine or how to recognize a real Carrara marble from a fake one. At the end of tour, we will get out from the cave and I will drive you up in the little village of Colonnata: a very small and authentic place famous for a very tasty kind of salami... "lardo di colonnata" ! I can bring you in the best food shop to buy a piece of lard or try to book a local restaurant for a tasting! A tour off the beaten path :)

A spectacular view of the Apuan Alps and a breathtaking tour. The tour includes a guided tour with a 4x4 Jeep of open pit quarries, to observe the modern machinery used today for excavation and learn the methods of extraction, but above all to relive the history of the white blocks of the most famous marble in the world. After the quarry tour, you can visit the village of Colonnata, where you can taste and buy local products in the shops that animate the small village. The tour includes a visit to an ancient Larderia with illustrations of production and storage techniques in typical marble basins. In the afternoon, we will head to Pietrasanta, the world center of artistic marble processing, but also of other artistic products, such as mosaic and metal sculptures. We will visit some art workshops and experience the thrill of witnessing the live realization of the works. The tour will continue to discover the historic center of Pietrasanta.

Carrara marble quarries Cinque Terre PRIVATE TOUR from SIENA

- Follow in the Master's footsteps as you trace Michelangelo's tracks to the marble quarries of Carrara. Carrara is where he went (250 miles was no small feat then) to hand pick his marble for his Pieta' and from which came the marble for, yes, the David. - Nowhere in the world is like the "Cinque Terre" or "Five Lands". These quaint, colorful seaside towns combine with the blues and greens in nature to create a stunning, scenic palette. Take a self guided tour through the towns. The entire area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. - Optional is a stop in Colonnata, world renowned home of Lardo di Colonnata, a local delicacy of pork fat aged in marble vats.
