There is no charge to visit Penfolds Magill Estate Cellar Door, although you will need to pay for tastings. It’s essential to book estate tours, tasting packages, and meal experiences in advance, while tables at Magill Estate Restaurant are also in high demand. Almost everyone who visits Penfolds Magill Estate travels from nearby Adelaide, occasionally with a designated driver but more often in a taxi. Most Penfolds Magill Estate tour packages exclude transportation as the location is so close to the city.

Magill Estate Kitchen at the winery can accommodate children. Magill Estate Restaurant is open to guests over 16 only.
South Australia’s drink-drive limit is 0.05BAC, significantly less than the US limit of 0.08, and rules are strictly enforced.
Both restaurants are wheelchair-accessible, but estate tours are not.
How to Get There
Just 5 miles (8 kilometers) east of downtown Adelaide, at the very beginning of the Adelaide Hills, Penfolds Magill Estate is by far the closest winery to the city. It’s reasonably easy to reach by public transport: The H20 and H22 run from Currie Street to within 10 minutes’ walk of the estate.

When to Get There
Penfolds Magill Estate is open from morning until early evening seven days a week, with the exception of Christmas Day and Boxing Day (December 26). Magill Estate Kitchen serves coffee and pastries on weekday mornings as well as weekday lunch, weekend brunch, and weekend lunch; the fine-dining restaurant serves dinner Wednesday through Saturday and lunch on Friday and Saturday.
Penfolds and the Grange
A rich, shiraz-led red, Penfolds Grange is Australia’s most collectible wine and was arguably the nation’s first internationally recognized fine wine. It takes its name from the Grange cottage on Penfolds Magill Estate, once home to Christopher and Mary Penfold, who founded the winery in 1844. Both the wine and the cottage are now heritage-listed.
