The basics

To ensure your safety, the steep slopes of Acatenango are best summited with a guide. Tours usually depart from Antigua and typically include pickup and lunch. While the climb can be completed in a day, overnight tours let you watch the sunset and see lava explosions from adjoining Fuego from a mountain campsite. For a less physically challenging option, choose a tour with 4WD transport part of the way up, which shortens the hiking time.

Challenging hike but well worth the effort!
Everything was great! The group was smaller than in tours by some other companies. This allowed us to move at a consistent pace, complete the hike early, and enjoy the rest of the day by the fire with the views of the erupting volcano.

Unforgettable experience

Acatenango Overnight
The hike is long and very difficult, especially when weather isn't right. I had rain and hail for half of the time, but seeing the volcano eruption trumps everything. It's one of those things you will never forget! Highly recommend OX because they are wonderful humans and big shout out to the guide Romeo.

Overnight Volcano Acatenango Hiking Adventure
We went hiking to the Acatenango’s volcano and it was the best adventure we have had so far. The view is amazing, thanks to Henri and Cesar we made it easily to the top. Their advice was the best and the sunset was incredible. Perfect experience, 100% recommendable.

Cesare was very helpful. Enjoyed seeing the explosions on Fuego and the sunrise at the summit. Tough hike but worth it. Bring cold weather clothing. It’s cold -1c

Acatenango Volcano: Visit Its Summit On a 4WD Vehicle in 1 Day + Meal at the Top
Seeing the lava spew out of the volcano at night. However the meal was not a gourmet meal. It was chicken breast and a bag salad. It was ok but definitely not gourmet.

Once in a Lifetime Experience!

Both of our guides were wonderful! Both were very encouraging and upbeat throughout the hike. Caesar kept telling us "You can do it! I promise!" I don't know how I would have managed the hike without Caesar's encouragement. The tour agency was great at preparing us for the tour with a packing list. I will never, ever forget this experience!

Beautiful landscape, expensive service

Acatenango Overnight
The service provided is good and probably one of the best base camps in the area, with wooden cabins. The food provided up in the mountain is very basic. We carry our own water and we carry the food they provide to us all the way up. The guides don’t carry explain anything related to nature, local communities or geology. They just escort the long hike. I had a good time overall and I was lucky with the weather. But I definitely think the price of this tour is wayyyy too high for what it offers.

The hike is super exhausting, but it's worth it! Our guides were super helpful and kind! Be sure to dress warmly, it's super cold at night. The less luggage, the better! Do not take weight with you unnecessarily. The view is breathtaking!

Our guides, Cesar, and unfortunately we can’t remember the name of the other guide, were so kind and lovely !!! They made our experience very easy. They were open minded and wanted us to achieve the top even though I wasn’t feeling good. They helped me and were very friendly. Recommend this tour x 8482917749 !!!!
