The basics

English signage at Iximché is limited. To get a better understanding of the historical significance and functions of the site, explore with a guide. Guided tours depart from Panajachel, Antigua, and Puerto Quetzal, a popular stop-off for cruise ships. Some full-day tours from Guatemala City combine a visit to the Iximché ruins with a guided tour of colonial Antigua. Multi-day tours of Guatemala often include stops at several Maya sites including Iximché, Tikal, and Yaxhá.

Excellent day tour with Merko to Iximché Ruins and Antigua City
This was an excellent tour with lots of great information given with humor and great patience. The Iximché Ruins were an eye opener. The Antigua City tour revealed many unexpected visuals. We would highly recommend our guide, Merko.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day of adventure with Jose. We were lucky enough to to get to see some Mayan rituals at Iximche. It was a great treat to have a private tour of such a special place.

Our tour guide really helped us understand the ruins and the Mayan culture behind it. We saw a religious fire ceremony taking place while there.

Iximché Ruins and Antigua City Tour from Guatemala City
We had a great time! Carmen was an amazing tour guide. She picked us up in Guatemala City then we picked up the other group in Antigua. She was very flexible in terms of giving us time for quick stop (restroom and snack) before we got to Iximche. She is incredibly knowledgeable about the site and the history and culture. She also brought us to see a coffee growing operation and then the restaurant where we had lunch was amazing. The tour of Antigua was also really informative and really fun. Carmen in particular was very friendly, fun, and gave us great advice for the rest of our trip. I highly recommend this tour as a great way to see Iximche and Antigua, especially if you are staying in Guatemala city.

Ruben was an amazing guide. Very knowledgeable about the history of Iximche. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed learning about the Mayan gods and he even quizzed us a little afterwards to make sure we remember. Haha. A lot of laughs. Good time overall. Pedro was a great driver and got us there and back safely. I would book these guys over and over again

Our driver Marcelino was great. Friendly and helpful and safe. Our guide Alex was equally amazing, a Tecpan native, he shared his knowledge on the history of his people.

Visit The Mayan City of Iximche on a Full-Day Private Tour
As we were heading to meet our tour guides my phone gsp gave out on me. We drove around for almost 2 hrs trying to find our meeting location and to our grateful surprise our guides patiently waited for us! Our driver was so wonderful! Not like most Guatemala drivers he spared my anxiety while cruising along:) Our other guide, Ruben EXCELLED in knowledge of not only the historical facts of the Mayan culture but his knowledge of Guatemala culture was mind blowing!! After our tour we stopped at one of the most wonderful restaurants recommended by our guides! As you can see in my pictures we were able to observe while the employees made hand patted tortillas, which were amazing, as well as live music, while we enjoyed our lunch. These two are by far the ones you want to choose to take you on a safe and informative tour!! 100/10

Iximche Mayan Ruin from Panajachel
Lee was a fantastic guide! He was very knowledgeable and enjoyable to talk to about Mayan history and culture on our drive to and from Iximche. This trip was part of our honeymoon and my husband’s birthday gift from me. He and I had such a great time and learned so much. We got to see Mayans conduct ceremonies as well which was interesting and surreal. It was overall an enriching experience.

Maya ruins in Guatemala

The remains of Maya cities are scattered all around Guatemala, offering insight into the history of the region’s indigenous people. The most famous—and perhaps most impressive—ruins are found in Tikal, where huge climbable pyramids rise from the jungle. Yaxhá, also in the north of the country, features more than 500 structures. El Mirador—hidden away in the dense Petén jungle—is difficult to reach, though those who do make the effort are rewarded with glimpses of the largest known structure in the Maya world, the 236-foot (72-meter) La Danta pyramid.
