Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve

The Basics

Several tour options are available from Cape Town—half- or full-day and private or group. Tours typically take you along the winding cliffside roads of Chapman’s Peak Drive and stop at Cape Peninsula towns such as Hout Bay and Simon's Town on the way. Many tours also offer the option of visiting the adorable penguin colony at Boulders Beach.

Some guided tours include time to hike or take the funicular up to the cape’s scenic lighthouse, while full-day tours often involve another area activity such as Stellenbosch wine-tasting or a visit to Robben Island. Private tours offer the most flexibility.

If you don't have much...
If you don't have much time in Cape Town this tour is perfect. You get a good selection of many sights. Our guide (I forgot his name) was very good. We had a lot of fun with him. At the end we forgot an IPhone in the bus and it was brought back to our hotel. All in all a great adventure.

Ian is a great guy to do this tour with. He was on time, very knowledgeable and easy to get along with. He is very flexible adjusting the route and timings to suit both the travellers preferences and weather conditions. His vehicle was very clean and comfortable.

Cape of Good Hope & Penguins Group Tour from Cape Town
Great tour! Very complete and lots of built in breaks and rest. Our tour guide Joshua was awesome and the group size was small enough that we all connected and enjoyed having lunch together. We found all the stops valuable and the whole tour was very well organized. Would recommend!

Private Tour: Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point from Cape Town
Charlton, our driver and guide made de day to us. He took us to the best places and everything worked smoothly. He is very friendly and kind. In a minute he bacame part of our family. He even gave us tips to do after our tour such as authentic restaurants in the area. The tour is private so we did almost everything in one day. I took my 8 year old daughter and she loved the tour. Highly recommended! 👍

A really interesting day out with Mazenga. Saw so much, learnt so much not just about the locations we visited but also about Cape Town and its history. Mazenga was happy to chat with me and answer all my questions. Will definitely do this tour again if I can visit with my family.

Private Tour: Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point from Cape Town
Thomas was a friendly, polite guide who really knew his stuff. Since it was a private tour, he could be flexible too. If we wanted coffee, he knew the best place. It didn’t hurt that we had fantastic weather for our drive down the Cape.

Cape of Good Hope Full Day Tour
Some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen. Although this won’t take away from my star rating, I wasn’t greatly impressed with the lunch location chooses by the guide.

There’s no public transportation to the cape. If you have a car, it will take you just over an hour to drive from Cape Town to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. A taxi from Cape Town is quite affordable, especially if sharing, but you will have to pay for your driver’s entrance fee as well and the parking lot is located 9 miles (15 kilometers) from the gate. When to Get There

Although it can get chilly in the southern hemisphere’s winter months (June to September), there are few bad times to visit as long as you dress for the chill. December, January, and February are, however, the best times to visit thanks to their long, sunny days with very little rain.

Most Southwestern Point of Africa

It was long believed that the Cape of Good Hope was the southernmost point of the African continent. That title actually belongs to Cape Agulhas, also located in South Africa...but about 90 miles (150 kilometers) southeast. When this point was established, the South African government was unfazed, changing the sign at the site to instead read “The Most Southwestern Point of the African Continent.”
