How to Spend 3 Days in Capri

Capri is the most famous and popular island in the Bay of Naples, but it is also perfectly located to visit the bay’s other two islands—Ischia and Procida—and to set out for a day trip to the Amalfi Coast’s gem-like towns of Positano, Ravello, and Amalfi. With three days, you can take in the highlights on the islands and coastline. Here’s how.
Day 1: Capri by Land and Sea
To escape the crowds that invade Capri each morning, set off on a private or group boat tour around the coastline from the Marina Grande port and admire the soaring Faraglioni sea stacks and the Blue Grotto. Longer boat tours often include breaks to swim and have lunch at a beachfront restaurant before returning to port. As the throngs disperse in the afternoon, explore the towns of Capri and Anacapri by land, take the chairlift to the summit of Mt. Solaro, and stroll the scenic Migliera path for dazzling views. Savor the peace as evening falls with drinks in the piazzetta, dinner overlooking the Mediterranean, or a sunset sail with prosecco.
Day 2: A Day on the Amalfi Coast
Capri is the perfect jumping-off point to visit the Amalfi Coast, just a short sail away. You can opt for a private or group boat tour directly from Capri to take in the colorful houses of Positano, magnificent cathedral (duomo) in Amalfi, and clifftop villas of Ravello by sea. Otherwise, visit the Amalfi Coast by land with a driving tour departing from Sorrento. Before the return ferry to Capri in the afternoon, however, take time to visit this historic coastal town, known for the artisan shops in its historic center, views across the bay to Capri from the Villa Comunale overlook, and lively cafés in Piazza Tasso.
Day 3: Ischia and Procida
On your third day, take a day trip by boat to explore the islands of Ischia and Procida, often overshadowed by Capri. Stop first on Ischia to relax in its natural hot springs and visit highlights such as the Aragonese Castle, La Mortella Gardens, pretty resort towns of Casamicciola Terme and Lacco Ameno, and pristine beaches including Sant'Angelo, Maronti, and Citara. Most full-day tours include stops to swim, explore by land, and lunch at one of the island’s many waterfront restaurants. Afterwards, skirt the coastline of sleepy Procida to admire its colorful fishing village, wild coastline, and crystalline waters before sailing back to Capri.
