Akumal

Km 104 Carretera Puerto Juarez-Tulum, Akumal, Cozumel

The Basics

Most Akumal tours include round-trip transportation from your hotel and leave from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and other Riviera Maya destinations. Scuba diving and snorkeling tours are a good way to experience Akumal’s coral reef and resident sea turtle population, while jungle ATV and zipline excursions allow you to experience the town’s nearby jungle. Some combination tours visit Akumal along with the Tulum ruins and various cenotes (underground pools).

Highly recommend!
Great experience. Was a lot of fun having the one on one with the tour guides. Would recommend getting the photographer as well. We got about 250 pictures that are amazing.

Tulum Ruins and Swimming with Turtles in Akumal from Cancun and Playa del Carmen
This excursion is hectic and TBH, it is a little disorganized with onboarding and putting people on various vehicles. There is a method to thdir madness, but it comes across as disorganized and chaotic st first. Otherwise, I feel like the guides and drivers were very pleasant. Worth the money for sure

Akumal Marine Turtle Daily Tour
Our guide was Carlos. He was very friendly, helpful a d punctual. While my son and I were swimming with turkeys, he took really nice videos and photos. When I had a problem with my GoPro, he was very patient and helpful. We were able to fix the problem and capture the beautiful memories of a cesote visit. I highly recommend this tour and the guide, Carlos.

Tulum Ruins And Akumal To Swim With Turtles From Playa del Carmen and Cancun
From beginning to end everything was flawless. We were picked up at the main gate of our resort (Bahia Principe) exactly when the email (make sure you check your email 24 hours before) indicated by an air conditioned van. The guide was wearing a shirt with the tour name on it and called our names. (There were lots of other tours picking up) Our tickets were checked, we paid the marine tax ($12ea) and were on our way. Everything was explained in detail as we drove from one activity to the next. We were able to leave unneeded items in the van and everything was perfectly safe. My husband had taken his iWatch off to apply sunscreen and accidentally left it on the seat and it was in the exact same spot when we came back. We started at Tulum Ruins and entered quickly and seamlessly. The guide spoke perfect English and explained everything we saw. We then had time to explore and take pics on our own. It was very hot so we were excited to go to the next part of the tour and get in the water. The guides at Akumal beach along with our own guide helped us navigate the water. We saw sea turtles, sting rays and tropical fish. Don’t bother buying the phone case they sell on the beach for $20. A couple we were with did but the pics were really blurry. The water was a bit murky so listen for the guide to indicate what is in the water and where. Stay near the group. After the snorkeling some were going onto the cenote but our tour was done. We were offered food and drinks throughout. We were then dropped off at the same gate to our resort. We had a wonderful time! We cannot say enough about the wonderful staff!!

The park is busiest from December through April, when the weather tends to be sunny and warm.
