Adventure travelers and nature enthusiasts come to Cumbuco Beach, on the Sunset Coast, for its array of outdoor adventures. While swimming and sunning are always options, visitors can also take a buggy ride through the dunes, try windsurfing or kitesurfing, ride a jet ski or banana boat, take a horseback ride on the beach, or cruise in a traditional fishing boat. Most day trips from Fortaleza include round-trip transportation to the beach, as well as several hours of free time.

Cumbuco is 23 miles (37 kilometers) west of Fortaleza. Follow the signs for CE-090 if you’re driving. The most convenient way to get there is to join a guided excursion from Fortaleza that includes round-trip transportation.
With an average temperature of 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) throughout the year, there isn’t really a bad time for a day at this sunny beach. Locals flock to the shore on weekends, but there's little to do in Cumbuco at night—you’ll need to return to the city if you want to party.
If you head north from Cumbuco, you’ll find a flat water lagoon in the middle of the sand dunes. Lagoa do Cauipe is one of the best places in the area for those who want to learn how to kitesurf, as winds are steady but the protected waters are easier to surf than at Cumbuco Beach.
