Palo Verde National Park

Palo Verde National Park, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

The Basics

Most tours of Palo Verde National Park include lunch and round-trip transportation from Tamarindo or Liberia area hotels. Much of the park can be explored by boat and excursions typically include a river cruise, during which you can travel down the Tempisque River and spot wildlife, such as crocodiles, birds, and monkeys.

Some tours also feature a visit to a Costa Rican waterfall or include a stop for bird-watching at one of the park’s marsh habitats. For a personalized experience, private tours are also available.

We went on this tour my husband and I with our 5 year old son. We loved it. The house/restaurant that welcomes you before the tour is super nice and clean. Hosts and our guide were amazing. On the tour, we saw lots of crocodiles, monkeys and birds. The lunch was awesome. Our best excursion of the week. Very respectful of nature.

Our tour guide and the boat captain were extremely knowledgeable and quick to spot and point out the various wildlife along the river. We’ve seen up close white face and howler monkeys, crocodiles (lots of them), iguanas, bats, and various native birds. Was a great experience.

This is a wonderful boat tour plus! We were warmly greeted, treated to juice and coffee after which we tasted home made tortillas and roasted cashews we saw prepared in the traditional ways. Our knowledgeable tour guide found us siting after siting, and the boat driver positioned the boat strategically for views and photos of crocodiles, monkeys, sleeping bats, and many species of birds. Locally grown lunch following the tour was delicious. A wonderful experience!

Jungle River Cruise at Palo Verde National Park
Jose was an excellent guide and the experience exceeded expectations. In addition to the river adventure, seeing all manner of wildlife up close, we were treated to a stop at a working farm. The drive to and from the river also gave us a first hand view of the countryside and how folks lived outside Tamarindo.

Our family group of 12 had a wonderful experience on this tour! The guides were extremely knowledgable, taking us up close to families of monkeys, crocs, iguanas and many varieties of birds. The lunch that followed was a treat as well - on an active family farm with great food, animals to visit, and craftspeople at work.
