Hakone is surrounded by steep mountains. A popular tour is hiking in one of the mountains. However, what guests would probably do is to watch their steps most of the time not to fall down or off the trails. Instead, the tour I'm offering is to walk around relatively flat areas so the guests can spend more time to look around to appreciate the nature in Hakone with proper introduction by the guide. As Hakone is in the national park, there are areas where guests are not allowed to approach for the protection of the nature. We will use compact binoculars from time to time during the tour to get clearer views of wild birds or far off spots. Guests will meet wild flowers, insects, or wild birds, some of which are unique in Hakone or Japan, and, if lucky, we may spot wild mammals such as deer, wild boars, raccoon dogs. This tour involves 4-5 hour hiking in Hakone (about 8-9km) and you need to be fit to complete it. You will traverse the outer rim of Hakone caldera and enjoy lunch and onsen in this experience. The 90-min ascent up to the mountain top is gentle, but there's still an elevation gain of 500 meter. Then the 2.5 hour ridge walk gives you a panoramic view of Hakone area. As you walk through the bamboo field, you will hear the birds singing and see sakura in spring, red leaves in autumn and step on the powdered snow in deep winter. After the ridge walk, you will go down the mountain in 30 minutes and reach Sengokuhara. If the weather is good, you can see Mt Fuji most of the time while you are on the ridge walk. Even when Mt Fuji is hiding behind the clouds, you still have a view of Hakone town in this traverse mountain hike. We go by chartered taxi to the trailhead. There are 3 parts in this tour - Visit the power-spot of Hakone, hike the easy part of the Hachiri - the heritage path in Hakone and have some adventure by swinging among trees. The walk is not difficult and it is suitable for family groups with children too! We visit the landmarks in Moto-Hakone, that includes the Hakone Shrine and Lake Ashi, cedar avenue and more. Then we have the Hachiri Hike - a mountain part of the path that links the old days Kyoto and Edo (now Tokyo). We enjoy the scenery and history as we slowly walk down the path. The third part of this tour is the tree adventure. You can swing among trees, do zipline, and join other tree adventures in the area. Please note that the tree adventure facility and the transportation cost are not included in the tour price. The guide will pick you up from your hotel lobby. We will end the tour at Moto Hakone. Your guide will help you go back to the hotel.

This experience gives you a chance to soak up natural negative ions around two waterfalls and also the forests in the 2 hours we hike together in Hakone mountains. It’s a moderate hike but there are ups and downs of around 250m elevation change along the way. The hiking part takes around 3 hours to complete, it will be longer if you take a lot of photo stops. After that, we enjoy a gourmet lunch in Hakone. After hiking, we have lunch at a restaurant with a view. Then we visit the power spot of Hakone - The Hakone Shrine where you can make a wish, under the history of this shrine and take pictures with the famous water gate in Lake Ashi. After that, we will enjoy onsen with a view of Mt Fuji (weather permits) or an onsen with milky white surplur water. Our tour finishes at Moto-Hakone.
