Maritime Museum of Tasmania
The basics
Housed within the historic Carnegie Building, the Maritime Museum of Tasmania displays model ships, maritime artifacts, paintings, and images from throughout the state’s history. Visitors can see models of the ships that docked at Sullivans Cove, hear the stories of the men who sailed in them, learn about Australia’s first explorers, and see the navigational instruments they used.

The Maritime Museum of Tasmania is in the Carnegie Building on Argyle Street, across from Constitution Dock on Hobart’s historic waterfront. It’s within walking distance of many other attractions and accommodations.

The Maritime Museum is open daily throughout the year from 9am to 5pm, except Christmas Day. The climate-controlled facility is a good option during inclement weather.
