Fushimi Inari Shrine (Fushimi Inari Taisha)

68 Fukakusa Yabu-no-uchi-cho, Kyoto, 612-0882

The Basics

While it’s easy to explore the shrine on a self-guided walking tour, a tour guide can help you learn more about the historic temples, the Senbon torii, and the shrine’s many fox statues. A full-day Kyoto tour typically includes a stop at Fushimi Inari, along with other highlights like the Kinkaku-Ji temple (Golden Temple), Kiyomizu Temple, Gekkeikan Sake Brewery, and the Gion Tanto geisha district. It’s also possible to visit Kyoto and its shrines on a day trip from Osaka or Nara, or as part of a multi-day Japan itinerary from Tokyo.

Carefree Private Exploration of Fushimi Inari, Gion, Kiyomizudera, and More
Duygo provided us excellent explanations of all the sites we visited. Very friendly and super knowledgeable! Lots of walking and a few steeper hills made the trip challenging for some older folks in our group but guide was very accommodating.

We had an excellent day with Daniel who took into consideration my mobility limitations and our interests to tailor a day that showed us the wonderful sights and experiences of Kyoto. Communication with this company was easy with very good response time.

Fushimi Inari Hidden Hiking Tour
Visit to the Kongobuji Temple and Konpondaito was very interesting. Pace wasn’t too hectic or rushed, although we did have to stick to a bit of a schedule. Our guide, HIDEo was very knowledgeable and shared many facts and bits of information along the way. Drawbacks to taking the tour: 1. the travel time from Osaka to your first stop. It will take approximately 2 hours to reach the Temple, if travelling on the express train. And a bit longer travelling back . 2. is the additional costs added to your tour price. Transportation will be anywhere from $40 to $45 per person plus entrance fees.

Kyoto from Osaka: Immersive Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari by Private Vehicle
Lito arranged a custom day for us based on our interests, and despite the drizzling weather, we had such a fantastic day. We saw beautiful gardens, shrines, bamboo forests, mountain trails with thousands of red Tori’s gates, and he even found an organic vegetarian restaurant that met my wife’s dietary restrictions. Thanks for the great day Lito!

Hiking to Mt. Inari-san

The dramatic red walkway of Senbon torii, which leads to the 764-foot (233-meter) peak of Mt. Inari-san, is one of Kyoto’s most impressive walks. Although the total distance is only 3 miles (5 kilometers), the path is mostly uphill and has lots of steps, so leave yourself plenty of time—around two or three hours is enough for the round trip. It’s a scenic route, dotted with shrines, prayer stacks, and other monuments, but the biggest reward is the view from the top, which looks out over southern Kyoto.
