Altos de chavon City of Stones

Altos de chavon City of Stones

Between the historic Santo Domingo and the tourist Punta Cana, the traveler comes across one of the treasures of the Dominican Republic: Altos de Chavón. If we had to choose the jewel in the crown of the Caribbean island, this would undoubtedly be Altos de Chavón, because it offers the traveler much more than the beaches full of tourists. A surprising urban and architectural whim of cobbled streets, coral stones, noble woods and iron forged by laborious artisan hands. A perfect replica of a 16th century Mediterranean villa, which was built in 1976 and whose legend claims that it was a birthday gift from a wealthy businessman to his daughter. It is located on top of a leafy hill above the Chavón River, a majestic river that has served as the setting for numerous films, This beautiful Renaissance-inspired villa will impress you with its beauty and exclusivity.

Great time, great food, great people.
Had an amazing day! Our tour guide Alex was awesome, adapted his tour in different languages to accommodate everyone, gave us fun facts about the areas we were passing through as we reached each destination, and overall just was a great person who answered all our questions. The excursion itself was great!! The restaurant where we ate lunch had an amazing view and the food was good. Had many options. I recommend!

A Remarkable Journey Through Dominican Culture and Beauty
If you're looking to immerse yourself in the beauty and culture of the Dominican Republic, this Day Trip to Saona Island and Altos de Chavon is an experience you won't want to miss. The day was filled with breathtaking views, engaging activities, and exceptional service. I have nothing but high praise for this well-curated and memorable tour. The journey begins with a visit to the Altos de Chavon, a 16th-century Mediterranean village recreation perched above the Chavon River. The architecture and ambiance of the place take you back in time and the tour guide's knowledge and enthusiasm make the experience even more immersive1. After the historical visit, the trip shifts gears towards the beauty of nature, as we sailed to Saona Island aboard a catamaran. The island is nothing short of a paradise, with white sand beaches fringed with coconut palm trees. There's plenty of time to relax and enjoy the island, not to mention the barbecue lunch of typical Dominican fare that was both delicious and satisfying. The open bar also adds a touch of relaxation and enjoyment to the trip1. The level of organization was impressive. Hotel pick-ups were timely and efficient, with Caribbean route representatives easily identifiable at the pick-up points1. The tour was well-paced, allowing ample time to experience and appreciate both the historical Altos de Chavon and the natural beauty of Saona Island.
