The Basics

The atmospheric Old Town (Vieux-Lille) is rich in 16th- and 17th-century architecture. Walk its cobblestoned streets and see Flemish-influenced, red-brick buildings as you wander. There's no shortage of things to do in the neighborhood that's home to top attractions such as Notre-Dame-de-la-Treille Cathedral, Hospice Comtesse Museum, the Birthplace of Charles de Gaulle, Grand Place, and Vieille Bourse (Old Stock Exchange). A fun way to explore the Old Town
My parents are not very mobile, so this was a great way for them to explore the Old Town and it was interesting to hear about the history of the city of Lille. I learnt a lot without being overly bombarded with information. Our driver/tour guide, Maxime, was wonderful - very knowledgeable with excellent english and a great sense of humour. Pick up was on time outside Palace du Rihour/tourist office. We drove through many of the streets of the old town and went past sites such as Grande Place, Maison natale Charles de Gaulle, Musee de l'hospice comtesse, cathedrale notre dame de la treille, porte de gand, le nouveau siecle, Rue Royale, eglise catholique sainte marie madeleine. The CVs are from 1989 - they were clean and well kept. It may be a bit bumpy on cobbled stones for some but it was fine for us - the cars don't go fast - and the three of us really enjoyed it. We went late morning on saturday - I worry traffic on the streets around the old town might have been very heavy in the afternoon.

Great introduction to the city. Our driver showed us the main sites, which we visited on foot later. The car is small enough to go through the narrower streets. Interesting facts about the city. So much better than reading a guidebook.

Me and my husband took the tour. Or tour guide was a very kind history student who knew a lot about the city and explained us the history behind different monuments and parts of the city. Touring the city with 2CV was also very exciting and unique.

Great overview of Lille. Our guides, Charles & Marie were very knowledgeable. Both were also very courteous & genuinely loved to share Lille’s stories. Our tour was a bit delayed because the second car arrived late & was out of gas. But Charles patiently entertained our group with a little bit history while waiting. Thank you, Charles!
