Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace Road, London

The Basics

Buckingham Palace is one of England's most famous landmarks. Visitors can always view its opulent exterior through the gates, but visits must be timed right to tour the interior. During its summer opening, travelers can peek into the state rooms, see the Throne Room, stroll through the palace gardens, and admire masterpieces by artists such as Rembrandt and Canaletto in Queen Victoria's Picture Gallery.

Buckingham Palace and the Horseguards
Louise was a great tour guide. She was friendly, knowledgeable and very funny. Her anecdotes about the Royal family were memorable. She took us to see the changing of the Royal Horseguards which was great. Then she led us to Buckingham Palace where we entered on our own. The palace is gorgeous but be prepared for lots of people inside. The artwork is amazing as is the garden behind the palace.

Tower of London Tour with Beefeater Private Audience
Thoroughly enjoyed it. There is so much to see, will have to visit again to see the rest as we had booked something else at 2pm and we started at 0830. Very educational.

Beefeater tour was great but the pre tour tour guide was very difficult to understand. She was also a bit scattered. The tour inside the tower was wonderful

Buckingham Palace Entrance ticket & Changing of the Guard Walking Tour
Applause and credits to our guide, Nathalie (heygo). Her enthusiasm and spunk made the experience even greater. Nice too see the changing of the guards, lovely walk through St. James park, interesting, entertaining and lovely storytelling by our guide. Sad that we could not visist Buckingham Palace during that time, rest in piece your majesty ... But all in all a fun and enjoyable experience.

Excellent tour but note that most of it is outside. Both the Windy City guide and the Beefeater were excellent.

Buckingham Palace Entrance Ticket with Royal London Walking Tour
Fantastic! & met all my expectations, with ticket into the palace included which saved queuing time as our guide was our entrance ticket, she did an excellent job & gave insightful explanations throughout the walk from the starting point where the Duke tower stands & towards Buckingham Palace, where she left us and off we went into the palace! At the end of the viewing, there's a Cafe & gift shop which are both really well-managed. Highly recommended for this tour!

Wonderful experience with up close view of the changing of the Royal Calvary Guard. Suggest the tour guide speak away from the microphone a little so her voice is clearer. Buckingham Palace is simply amazing.

Visit Kensington Palace & 3 Hour Westminster Walking Tour
Benedict was a well informed and humorous guide, taking us through and to all the key sights of central London. Despite the wintery rainy weather conditions, it was a pleasant walking tour. My only complaint is that tour offering did not mention that 1) you would need to find your own way to Kensington Palace and 2) more importantly, timed entrance had you visiting after the walking tour ended. At 2 pm. This time didnt work because I already had plans following the walking tour. Viator, please update tour offering on site to reflect these last two important details. People who purchase can them plan accordingly.

When to Get There

The best time to visit Buckingham Palace is during the legendary Changing of the Guard ceremony, when the royal guards change shifts. This takes place daily at 11:30am but can be canceled in bad weather. The palace interior is only open to the public during summer, from late July until the end of September, with tours running daily from 9:30am to 7:30pm (until 6:30pm in September). You'll want to book this coveted experience in advance.

And although not royal in nature, Westminster Abbey is the resting place of many English monarchs and the site of some royal family weddings (including that of Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge).
