Kensington Palace

March–Oct 10am–6pm; Nov–Feb 10am–4pm
Kensington Gardens, London, W8 4PX

The Basics

While the royal living quarters are off-limits, a large portion of the palace is open to the public. Highlights of Kensington Palace include the 16th-century King's Staircase; Queen Mary's State Apartments; and Queen Caroline's Cabinet of Curiosities, as well as the landscaped palace gardens.

Visit with a priority-access ticket to save time, or book a Royal Palaces Pass that allows entry to three other royal London attractions: Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, and Hampton Court Palace. Some tours to Buckingham Palace also stop by Kensington Palace, while others pair a palace visit with an afternoon tea experience in the gardens.

Lovely Afternoon
The surroundings for the tea were gorgeous, the music was soothing and the sandwiches and sweets tasted delicious. It was a lovely afternoon.

The Kensington Palace Gardens Royal High Tea
The High Tea itself-the walking tour of park and gardens was informative and full of historical facts but a tad too long (over an hour). Tour guide was quite pleasant and knowledgeable regarding England’s history. In the final analysis though, tour was a bit too pricey likely in part because of too many middlemen, ie., Tasting Tours, Viator and the Kensington Palace itself.
Interesting and worth seeing.

Kensington Palace Entrance Ticket
Extensive fashion exhibit of antique and modern clothing, very interesting. Access to rooms in which Victoria was raised also interesting. Gardens are fabulous, do not require any entrance ticket.

Our guide was knowledgeable and super friendly. I wish I could remember his name. We enjoyed our walk through the Kensington palace gardens and were well informed by our guide. The high tea was a beautiful experience. Loved the tea and the food. We will do this one again in the future.

Our guide had excellent knowledge and was very engaging with our small group. Was definitely better being in a small group because we had greater interaction and felt more intimate. Loved the high tea!

The Kensington Palace Gardens Royal High Tea
I booked this tour just before leaving for the airport on a Friday afternoon. I was in London on business, but wanted to get something touristy in after a long week! The park was gorgeous and not crowded at all, and tea was wonderful! There was PLENTY of food, so go hungry.

Visit Kensington Palace & 3 Hour Westminster Walking Tour
Benedict was a well informed and humorous guide, taking us through and to all the key sights of central London. Despite the wintery rainy weather conditions, it was a pleasant walking tour. My only complaint is that tour offering did not mention that 1) you would need to find your own way to Kensington Palace and 2) more importantly, timed entrance had you visiting after the walking tour ended. At 2 pm. This time didnt work because I already had plans following the walking tour. Viator, please update tour offering on site to reflect these last two important details. People who purchase can them plan accordingly.

The History of Kensington Palace

The birthplace of Queen Victoria, Kensington Palace was originally known as Nottingham House when it was built in 1605 and has long been a home base for British royals. After suffering damages during the Blitz, Kensington Palace fell into disrepair before once again finding favor among younger and minor royals. Nowadays, it's the London base of Prince William and Kate Middleton. And those famous gardens? They were redeveloped by Queen Caroline in the 18th century with the help of royal gardener Charles Bridgeman.
