Los Angeles Little Tokyo

Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, CA

The Basics

With its downtown location, Little Tokyo is not often part of Los Angeles sightseeing tours that typically focus on the Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood areas, but some hop-on hop-off bus tour routes include a Little Tokyo stop. The main attractions in the neighborhood are the Japanese Village Plaza shopping and dining district, the Japanese American National Museum, and the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, one of the three branches of the city’s Museum of Contemporary Art.

Other sights to see include a monument to Japanese American astronaut Ellison S. Onizuka, who died aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986; the Go For Broke Monument, which honors Japanese Americans who served in the American military during World War II; Buddhist temples; and the Japanese garden at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center.

Chris was a wonderful guide. Very knowledgeable and passionate about the history and architecture of downtown LA. I wouldn’t have noticed so many things or been aware of different areas if I had walked around on my own. We enjoyed our experience and learned a lot! His little dog who joined us was an extra bonus.

Chris was an amazing tour guide. He was knowledgable, passionate, and well-informed on many aspects of the city, not just architecture. It made for a well-rounded tour filled with interesting anecdotes about LA. We appreciated his thoughtfulness in providing water and steering us toward areas with ample shade in the hot summer sun. What made this tour extra special was being able to ride Angel's Flight at the beginning, as well as the yummy and refreshing mochi pit stop in Japan center. I had to organize this tour as an activity for a company retreat and could not have asked for a better tour guide or experience. Would highly recommend Chris and his services!
