Moonlit Sanctuary

550 Tyabb Tooradin Road, Pearcedale, Melbourne, 3912

The Basics

Moonlit Sanctuary is a popular day trip from Melbourne. Book one of the night tours, or visit during the day to get up close and personal with a variety of animals. Visitors can pet a wombat or a koala, take a dingo for a walk, hold a barn owl or python, or spend a day helping staff feed and care for the animals.

Many tours stop at Moonlit Sanctuary along with spots such as Brighton Beach, which is famous for its brightly-colored bathing boxes; and Phillip Island, where you can observe thousands of penguins heading to their burrows at dusk. Multi-day tours of Mornington Peninsula also tend to visit Moonlit Sanctuary.

The tour as a whole was five stars from start to finish with Graeme! Very welcoming and kind tour guide, went above and beyond to make the tour enjoyable for everyone while still keeping it organized. There’s a reason why this tour and Go West is five stars, if you have the chance and the funds I would highly highly highly recommend this! Thank you for making part of my trip so memorable.

Even though Philip Island is the main attraction of the tour, Brighton Beach and Moonlit Sanctuary were great stops! I especially liked Moonlit Sanctuary, as I was able to feed and pet kangaroos and wallabies! And of course, the Little Penguins were super cute!

Jon is our guide is knowledgeable and shared many interesting stories and tidbits to keep the group engaged. He put in suggestions to us so that we can able to have the best experience possible. There were some hiccups like closing of restaurants which we supposed to have dinners but it is no fault of them. But still, my and my wife enjoyed especially seeing the penguin parade which is the highlight of the trip.

Great trip. Both the Moonlit Sanctuary and the Penguin Parade are a must for animal lovers. Graeme the driver was fun, and both knowledgable and helpful to the group. The bus could do with a little bit of TLC, it was quite a bouncy ride at times.

This was a wonderful way to see Australian wildlife. Our guide, Mark was a lot of fun and made sure we all had a wonderful experience. However, the night we went there were very few penguins and it was too dark to spot the birds. The cold and the rain didn’t help much. We could have been taken outside a little later to avoid the long wait.

Beach huts were fun but busy! Animal sanctuary had all the iconic creatures you expect in Australia. Beautiful boardwalk on the cliffs with breathtaking views and loved the wild wallabies. Strangely, the penguins coming ashore was a little anticlimactic but seeing and hearing them close by the boardwalk made up for this. Very full day, back late but very satisfied.

Robert, our tour guide, for this tour is very knowledgeable on the history of Melbourne building. He is very friendly and engaging. The Phillip island penguin experience is really good, surprised that penguins will go back to the island after its hunt daily. Brighton beach is beautiful, worth a visit.
