Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria

Birdwood Avenue, South Yarra, Melbourne, 3141

The Basics

Since 1846, the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria have provided Melburnians with an escape from busy city life. With a mix of native and exotic plant species, there is always something interesting happening in this massive park. Many city tours pass by and discuss the gardens, one of the main highlights of the city, and specialized tours—such as Aboriginal heritage tours—go in-depth into its history and horticulture.

The beauty of the Botanical garden. Also reminded of the respect we need for the Land. We only should take what we need.

Aboriginal Heritage Walk - Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Melbourne Gardens
Den was a great guide with fun humor. He walked us through garden explaining how the plants and land were utilized by aboriginal people. He also made us think about the land and how to continue connecting with the land and each other. Highly recommend this tour.

Aboriginal Heritage Walk - Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Melbourne Gardens
I loved the sensory experience, getting to smell leaves and touch bumpy tree bark. I signed up specifically because this tour featured Aboriginal heritage. Our guide was and to recommend additional Aboriginal cultural options. This tour meet my expectations in terms of sustainability: walking, nature interaction and support of native culture.

Aboriginal Heritage Walk - Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Melbourne Gardens
Listening & learning from Uncle Den was awesome. He connected with old, young, local & international perspectives in the group & really quickly built the respect & understanding of our need to connect to & respect country. The mix of humour, info & discussion to provoke deeper reflection & challenge within the group was pretty damn cool in such a short amount of time. I’n already recommending it to anyone & everyone!!
