The Basics

A majority of the tours to the Twelve Apostles are full-day tours leaving from Melbourne in the early morning. There are many stops and photo opportunities along the way as you drive down the Great Ocean Road, such as Loch Ard Gorge, Apollo Bay, and Port Campbell. Discover the native wildlife, such as koalas and kangaroos, and learn about the local indigenous culture. For those who want a bird’s-eye view, take a helicopter tour over the Victorian coast.

Well worth it
Great trip with Craig and Barry the platypus. 😊 The sights are excellent. Loved the 12 Apostles, but the real surprise of the day was Loch Ard Gorge which was terrific. Enjoyed the visit to Apollo Bay. Not so sure about the chocolate factory but their vanilla scones were excellent. Craig is a great tour guide- looked after everyone really well and gave us lots of interesting information about the sights and history. Recommend.

Eva and Tom's story touched the heart. Proud of the lady. Chris was the best guide who made it all interesting. The transport was clean and contemporary with a mobile charger on every seat.

Great Ocean Road (12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, and London Bridge) 1-Day Tour
Scenic all the way. Memorable ride. The guide stopped at all lookouts. He described the locations well and shared with us little bit of history also. His english was good and we (asians) could also understand. He stopped the bus at right places for food and recess. He covered the walk into rain forests along with 12 apostles, the gorge and the london bridge.

Paul was an attentive, informative and entertaining guide. The small group of 11 was ideal, it is fun to interact with other people from throughout the world. The food stops were good, lunch was delicious with the option to turn the fish and chips into grilled fish and salad for a healthy alternative. The Great Ocean Road and Twelve Apostles are a must see and this tour is a great way to experience them and more.

Small Group - 12 Apostles, Otways & Great Ocean Road Day Tour from Melbourne
It was an awesome trip! The deiver/guide was amazing who kept us engaged with tons of facts and anecdotes that he shared through out the trip. The route was also well chosen wnd allowed us to cruise against the traffic through out the trip. The driver was well aware of the route and wild life along. We managed to spot koalas, kangaroo and many birds along the way.

Brenden is an excellent tour guide and driver. He really made the day! When we booked this tour we were looking for a small group in a comfortable Mercedes mini van. The local connections he has with the coffee stop and the marina lunch and the chocolate stop is important because it eases the time

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The Twelve Apostles can be viewed from the viewpoint above or down on the beach, reached via the Gibson Steps.

  • The Great Ocean Road can be very chilly due to the strong winds from the Southern Ocean, so it’s best to dress in layers.

  • The Twelve Apostles Visitor Facility, located across the B100 highway, has an information center, restrooms and a drinking fountain (with wheelchair accessibility), a large parking area, and a small cafe.

How to Get There

For those who would like to road trip on their own, drive along the coastal B100 highway to reach the Twelve Apostles. Visitors can also rent a bike or book a cycling tour to explore the Great Ocean Road at their own pace. For the truly adventurous, the 65-mile (104-kilometer) Great Ocean Walk from Apollo Bay to the Twelve Apostles may be of interest.

When to Get There

The Twelve Apostles is one of Australia’s most popular attractions. Avoid the large crowds from tourist buses by getting to the rock formations in the early morning or late afternoon. Alternately, if you drive inland to get to the sight, and then take the Great Ocean Road back to Melbourne, it's generally a less crowded route.

The Shipwreck Coast

The Bass Strait was once a very busy shipping route, bringing supplies and immigrants to Melbourne from all over the world. But the waters were quite treacherous during bad weather. This resulted in upwards of 700 ships meeting a bitter end along this coastline, some of which can still be seen today between Port Fairy and Cape Otway.
