The Basics

Beloved by locals and visitors alike, Coyoacán’s historic center (aka Villa Coyoacán) is easy to explore on foot in as little as half a day. Stroll the cobblestone streets before relaxing in one of the many pretty plazas; take a walking tour to learn about the pre-Hispanic and colonial history of the district; or uncover Frida Kahlo’s artistic legacy.

Alternatively, combine a visit to Coyoacán with stops in Xochimilco, University City, or Teotihuacán. And don’t miss the trio of popular house-museums, once occupied by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Leon Trotsky, respectively.

Mexico City Bike Tour: Coyoacan and Frida Kahlo Museum ENTRANCE INCLUDED
Our tour guide, Magic, was very helpful and flexible. She was great with the bikes, and made sure ours were safe and in good order. She told us about the neighborhoods we road through, and showed us around a great market in Coyoacán. We really appreciated her knowledge, kindness and flexibility. The Frida Kahlo Museum was an amazing experience, made better by our tour. You won't regret seeing Mexico City by bike!

Xochimilco + Coyoacan + Estadio Azteca + UNAM
Guide is very knowledgeable; so this is an excellent opportunity to learn some history about the region. Coyoacán is a charming place and home of Frida Kahlo. The trip includes a visit to the university which houses a huge campus with lots of important art work and architecture. Xochimilco itself is very touristy but fun for the kids to be on a float. Lots of time spent in traffic though.
Great tour. Recommended.

Xochimilco, Coyoacán and Frida Kahlo Museum Tour
This is a great way to see a few must see site on your visit to Mexico City. The bus is clean and comfortable, with outlets for charging your devices. The tour guides are friendly, knowledgeable and bilingual. Lunch was somewhat underwhelming, served buffet-style at a local restaurant.

Xochimilco, Coyoacán and Frida Kahlo Museum Tour
We had a great time on this tour. Our guide was great and we stayed on schedule (other than some traffic that couldn’t be avoided). The bus was comfortable and clean. The boats were a bit chaotic but in a charming way!

Frida Kahlo's House, Coyoacan and Xochimilco - All Day Tour
The trip, and the extras squeezed in, were all great and thoroughly enjoyed. Just a couple of cautionary notes - the traffic in Mexico City is very heavy and so flexibility in the return time is needed (e.g., don't make any early restaurant reservations) and be careful with the food that you eat on the trip if you have a sensitive stomach.

Frida Kahlo Museum, Coyoacan, Xochimilco floating gardens and UNAM murals
Seeing the home movies of Frida y Diego. Seeing the art Frida created and collected. Learning that she could speak and read many languages. Also thinking about her ability to make art during her lifetime of extreme physical pain.

Explore Frida Kahlo’s Coyoacán

Perhaps Coyoacán’s most well-known former resident, Frida Kahlo was born and raised in the district, and died there too. Wander around La Casa Azul and the Frida Kahlo Museum—the artist’s former home—before lunching on tostadas at Coyoacán Market. Finally, snap a photo with Frida at the Casa de Cultura Jesús Reyes Heroles. For more insight into Frida’s life and work, opt for a Frida-themed tour of the area.
