Xochimilco

Calle Mercado # 1, Barrio Xaltocan, Xochimilco

The Basics

The floating gardens of Xochimilco make an easy half-day trip from Mexico City, and the quintessential way to explore is a traditionaltrajinera boat ride around the Xochimilco canals and islands. Xochimilco tours are often combined with a Mexico City sightseeing tour, visits to historic sites such as the National University of Mexico or the ancient ruins of Teotihuacan, or a tour of the Coyoacán neighborhood, where highlights include the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum and the Frida Kahlo Museum.

Xochimilco boat ride, food and VIP transportation from CDMX
The boat ride was fun, my friends and I enjoyed it. The trajinero was a young man who enjoyed his work, the driver we got, even if he does not speak English, was able to understand me and my limited knowledge of the Spanish language. My friends and I enjoyed the boat Xochimilco experience and I will recommend it to friends who will come and visit the City.

Private City Tour in Frida Kahlo, Coyoacan, and Xochimilco
Had an excellent time seeing Coayocan and Xochimilco. Everything was well arranged and went smoothly. Patricia was an excellent guide giving the historical background as well fun stories about the area. Xochimilco was the highlight. It was so different than the rest of Mexico City. I still crack up thinking of these mariachi bands on a boat. Definitely a must do.

Xochimilco & Coyoacán Private Tour
We had a great time with Franck. The trip to Xochimilco was full of information about the different districts and learning about the history and culture of Mexico City. The boat ride was timed perfectly so that we didn't have to wait for a ride but there was plenty of energy on the water giving us an authentic experience. Our time in Coyoacan was relaxed and we enjoyed some delicious churros with plenty of time for checking out mulitple markets.

Xochimilco + Coyoacan + Estadio Azteca + UNAM
Guide is very knowledgeable; so this is an excellent opportunity to learn some history about the region. Coyoacán is a charming place and home of Frida Kahlo. The trip includes a visit to the university which houses a huge campus with lots of important art work and architecture. Xochimilco itself is very touristy but fun for the kids to be on a float. Lots of time spent in traffic though.

Xochimilco, Coyoacán and Frida Kahlo Museum Tour
Out Hostess and Driver were Ruben Juan and Yair, they were great! The way they explained the History of Mexico in each monument and place was very good! In the Xochimilco boat they helped us manage the money for the Mariachi’s which isn’t their Job but did it without thinking twice! Everything went good and they had a solution for every problem even if there were almost none

Xochimilco, Coyoacán and Frida Kahlo Museum Tour
This is a great way to see a few must see site on your visit to Mexico City. The bus is clean and comfortable, with outlets for charging your devices. The tour guides are friendly, knowledgeable and bilingual. Lunch was somewhat underwhelming, served buffet-style at a local restaurant.

Xochimilco, Coyoacán and Frida Kahlo Museum Tour
We had a great time on this tour. Our guide was great and we stayed on schedule (other than some traffic that couldn’t be avoided). The bus was comfortable and clean. The boats were a bit chaotic but in a charming way!

Frida Kahlo's House, Coyoacan and Xochimilco - All Day Tour
The trip, and the extras squeezed in, were all great and thoroughly enjoyed. Just a couple of cautionary notes - the traffic in Mexico City is very heavy and so flexibility in the return time is needed (e.g., don't make any early restaurant reservations) and be careful with the food that you eat on the trip if you have a sensitive stomach.

The Floating Gardens of Xochimilco

Xochimilco’s floating gardens are the last vestige of Mexico’s elaboratechinampas—the agricultural system set up by the ancient Aztecs. Devised to make the most of the fertile lake lands of the Anahuac Valley, thechinampas are comprised of small, man-made islands of farmland linked by a network of canals. Though most of the Aztecs' massive system of canals have long since been drained, the suburb of Xochimilco offers a glimpse into the ancient beauty of Tenochtitlán, and the remarkably preserved site is now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
