La Scala Opera House (Teatro alla Scala)

Piazza della Scala, Milan, Italy, 20121

The Basics

La Scala is an impressive sight whether or not you’re an opera or ballet aficionado. The building’s exterior may not be as remarkable as Milan’s Duomo, just a stone’s throw away, but a tour of its opulent interior is a must for any music lover. Along with the Duomo and Leonardo da Vinci’sThe Last Supper, La Scala is one of the most popular attractions in Milan, so booking a skip-the-line tour is a must. Consider joining a small-group walking tour of Milan’s highlights with an expert guide to avoid long entry waits and to learn first-hand about the iconic sights’ fascinating history. If you would like to take a full tour of La Scala, you must visit with an official tour guide. These theater tours also include a visit to La Scala Museum, which houses a collection of costumes and set designs, musical instruments, portraits of actors and musicians, and an archive. Of course, nothing beats seeing a La Scala concert, ballet, or opera, including beloved works by Rossini, Puccini, and Verdi.

Excellent Tour
Our tour guide Simone was very knowledgeable. He led the tour with his enthusiasm and knowlege and it was obvious that the tour was enjoyed by all attendees. We were fortunate enough to not only see and learn about the artifaxes in the Scala Museum but Simone saw the opportunity for us to get a great view of the interior of performance area.

I was really happy that I chose to visit La Scala with a guide rather than on my own. Our guide gave just the right amount of information regarding the building, the operas performed there, and the people involved in making La Scala the great venue that it is.
A knowledgeable guide gave us a very interesting tour of some of Milan’s treasures.

Milan Half-Day Tour Including da Vinci's 'Last Supper', Duomo & La Scala Theatre
The Duomo is an amazing building with a very interesting history. The last supper is a brilliant fresco. It’s colours and the expressions on the peoples faces were amazing. We also enjoyed visiting the opera house. It would be so good to attend a live performance of one of Verdi’s operas.

The experience in general was good. Only thing that would be better is that the theater be illuminated but there were a rehearsal that we understand was important. The guide was good as well

Our guide was excellent!! So knowledgeable about opera, the Duomo and the castle! We traveled at a nice pace and she gave wonderful color commentary between the three main sites. She answered our questions wonderfully! Your size was just right at 9 visitors.

Milan Half-Day Tour Including da Vinci's 'Last Supper', Duomo & La Scala Theatre
A fantastic tour with a great guide. She was very informative and gave us a lot of history inside the Duomo and the Theatre. The last supper is pretty amazing but you only have 15 minutes to view it which is really plenty of time. I highly recommend this tour.

The “Staircase Theater”

The wordscala means “staircase” in Italian, but Teatro alla Scala was so named because it was built on the site where the Church of Santa Maria alla Scala once stood.
