Brera Art Gallery (Pinacoteca di Brera)

Via Brera 28, Milan, 20121

The Basics

Housed in the baroque 17th-century Palazzo di Brera, the Pinacoteca di Brera has grand interiors and a lovely neoclassical cloister, and a visit to its stellar collection is a must for any art enthusiast. The museum's headliner is The Lamentation of Christ by Andrea Mantegna, a Mannerist gem. The surrounding Brera district, a charming maze of narrow, cobblestone streets lined with boutiques and cafés near the Duomo in the city center, is one of the trendiest neighborhoods in Milan. Join a walking tour of Brera that includes skip-the-line tickets to the Pinacoteca di Brera to explore both the neighborhood and its most famous attraction. Brera is also a great place to experience Milan’s excellent food and wine scene, so consider joining a small-group food walking tour that has a gastronomic bent.

Amazing Museum in Milan
The museum was great and the art was so beautiful. I have to say the best part of the tour was our guide Simon. His knowledge of the works of art and the artists was amazing! He also provided information on the whole area around the museum. If you can get Simon as your guide definitely do this tour.

Thank you so, so much to Nina for going above and beyond on a truly enlightening and wonderful tour. She is clearly so passionate about what she does and we were fascinated and enthralled. She kindly answered our many questions and we learned so much. 100% recommend and would go again. Grazie mille, Nina!

Stephanie was wonderful. She explained interesting facts about the art in this museum and seemed pleased at how excited we were to learn. Actually, neither my husband nor I have ever liked religious art, but we sure have respect for it now after our tour with Stephanie. You can't go wrong this this tour and you sure won't forget it, either

We had a great time and highly recommend this tour! The guide provided a lot of background and insight into the artwork that we would have otherwise overlooked. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and appreciate that we now have free access to the Pinacoteca di Brera for 30-days. We look forward to going back soon!

We purchased this tour through Viator to have a better experience on a visit to Pinacoteca museum. Out tour guide gave us a brief tour on Brera district, and guides arts in the museum. She was very knowledgeable and explained clearly. Especially she took time to go through all of the must-see art pieces in depth. She made our museum visit wonderful. We definitely recommend anyone to hire Viator.

When to Get There

Try to avoid visiting the first Sunday of the month, when the Pinacoteca is free to enter—and therefore very crowded. Better to visit on a weekday morning (Tuesday through Sunday; the gallery is closed on Mondays) and take the afternoon to explore the surrounding neighborhood.
