The Basics
Selvatura Park offers tours catering to all types of visitors. Adrenaline junkies will love zipping through the cloud forests on an extreme canopy adventure featuring a 15-cable zipline course and a giant Tarzan swing. Children can explore the hummingbird and butterfly gardens or take an insect-exhibition or herpetarium tour. Wander through the cloud-forest canopy on a series of suspension bridges, or experience all the park’s adventures and natural activities by booking a full-day tour.

Things to Know Before You Go
Trails and bridges in the cloud forest can be slippery, so wear hiking shoes with good traction.
Long pants and hiking boots are strongly recommended for canopy tours.
Don’t forget mosquito repellent, sunscreen, a hat, and a rain jacket.
Canopy tours are not wheelchair accessible.
How to Get There
Most Selvatura Park tours include round-trip transportation from your accommodations in Santa Elena or Monteverde, and some day trips even include transportation from the coast. If traveling from Monteverde on your own, simply head north from the main town and follow the signs to Selvatura Park.
When to Get There
Selvatura Park is open year-round, seven days a week. The most popular time to visit Costa Rica is from mid-November through April (the dry season). You’ll find reliable sunshine and clearer skies during the dry season, but with it come higher prices and peak crowds. If you don’t mind the rain, visiting May through November is less crowded and less expensive.
Family-Friendly Activities at Selvatura Park
Most activities at Selvatura Park are family friendly. Children age 4 and up can participate in the zipline canopy tours. Smaller children may need to go tandem with a parent or a guide but may be able to do some of the shorter lines on their own. The guided butterfly garden tours are especially suited for families with young children, and children will also enjoy exploring the rain forest along the treetop walkways.
