The Bat Jungle
Home to around 100 bats from 8 different native species, the enclosed Bat Jungle replicates the conditions of a cloud forest at night. While bats can be difficult to observe in the wild, this exhibit lets you see bats eating, interacting, and caring for their young. A tour gives visitors further insight into these mysterious nocturnal creatures.
The Basics
As its conveniently located in the Monteverde area, you can combine the Bat Jungle with the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. A guided tour of the Bat Jungle typically explains the exhibits in more detail and allows you to enter the bat’s flight space, which you’re separated from by a glass screen. Plus, you’ll learn about the important role that bats play in Costa Rica’s ecosystems and experience how bats communicate using echolocation technology.
Things to Know Before You Go
The Bat Jungle is a must-visit for bat enthusiasts and biology buffs.
Glass separates you from the bats so you don’t come into direct contact with the creatures.
Designed by a renowned bat biologist, the Bat Jungle is educational and one-of-a-kind.
This is a great activity for the whole family; children under the age of six enter for free.
