Did you know that Costa Rica has eliminated its zoos? And, by that, Costa Rican law means that animals cannot be captured and/or kept purely for our viewing pleasure. In practice, of course, many wildlife rescues allow visitors to view wild animals – but this purpose is secondary. The animals you see in Costa Rica’s refuges and rescues are just that: rescued. That is the primary and most important purpose of any rescue center. These animals were injured, kept as pets, or orphaned, and must now be rehabilitated, hopefully for release back into the wild. They will not live at the rescue center forever, unless they are incapable of surviving in the wild. And that’s one of the things we love about Las Pumas: the enclosures are spacious and clean, mimicking the animals’ natural environment. If they can live in the wild again, they’ll feel right at home.

The Tree Top walkway is the ideal cloud forest experience for those who wish to explore the beauty of the canopy at their own pace and appreciate the incredible array of vegetation and exotic bird life that the region has to offer. The walkway consists of 8 suspension bridges connected by trails covering 1.9 miles (3km). The bridges vary from 150ft (50m) to 500ft (170m) in length and are suspended at heights ranging from 36ft (12m) to 180ft (60m). At almost 5ft (1.5m) wide, the bridge system is the widest and sturdiest in Costa Rica. All guides are bilingual and professionally trained. Visitors will learn about the mammals, birds and plant life - particularly bromeliads, epiphytes and ferns – living in this unique eco-system, as well as hearing some of the fascinating cultural history of the region. The hanging bridges can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages and physical conditions.

Curi-Cancha is a birdwatcher’s paradise. In this park you will be able to find the Resplendent Quetzal, Three-Wattled Bellbird, Blue-Crowned Motmot, Orange-bellied Trogon, and many others are frequently seen. Even, over 200 species of birds have been observed making their home in Curi-Canch. Also the mammals as the armadillo, coati, agouti, kinkajou, ocelot, two-toed sloth, and three species of monkey: mantled howler, white-faced capuchin, and spider monkey are frequently sighted here. Visitors are welcome to browse the trails by themselves the day of the service or book the full service, including the ticket, the guide and with the round trip transportation from Santa Elena hotels. We recomend to take the Guided birding tours because our guides who have particular expertise in finding and identifying local birds.

We can see many species of birds in different habitats. We will bird and learn about the many species of birds found in Monteverde. We will start at 6 am, the best time when the birds are more active. I will keep a detail list of the birds we see during the tour, the list can be shared via ebird, email or whatsaap. In this tour we will try to see as many birds as possible focusing on the regional endemics.
