The Basics

Getting to the Afareaitu Waterfalls is a bit of an adventure in its own right. Both are accessed by dirt roads, followed by an uphill trek (20 to 30 minutes) through the jungle, over volcanic rock, and across streams. Although the journey to get to this attraction isn't easy, it is worth it for the experience of discovering a hidden jungle waterfall. There’s sometimes a small fee required to hike to the waterfalls.

One of a kind Moorea experience
Incredible hike, Yvette and Tracey are super knowledgeable about their valley and waterfall. We learned a lot about Polynesian culture along the way to the gorgeous swimming hole below a truly stunning waterfall. The fruit fresh from the garden after the hike is a delicious treat. Highly recommend, don’t miss this!!

When to Get There

The best time to visit the falls is in summer (November to April), when frequent rains fuel the falls and fill up the rock pools at the base. The falls are often little more than trickles during the winter dry season (October to April). The trail to the falls is accessible year round.
