Things to do in  Negril

Got to see a different side of Negril. It was so much fun, I didn’t realize how much we needed it! We met people from other resorts, and it was a perfect blend. We partied, danced, and laughed so hard til our bellies ached. Lambert and his son were the perfect tour guides and so informative. This is a must do!!!!

At first we had trouble contacting Nigel at Mighten's Tours to confirm our pick-up time two days before, and then again the day before. We wanted confirmation that the excursion was still happening, so finally the evening before we heard back and were told that pickup time would be at 8:30am, which we were not thrilled about (it didn't specify on the Viator page)... but at least we got confirmation! Plus it was needed, as it ended up being a full-day tour. We expressed right away that we wanted to be back by around 5pm, with time to freshen up before sunset. Unfortunately, on the way back from Appleton's, Nigel stopped somewhere along the way in order to get his trunk looked at (it was broken from a recent accident where he was rear-ended). We really wished that he had asked us beforehand about that stop, or better yet, waited until our tour was over before having it looked at. It felt like a detour that ended up taking us longer to get back to our resort, with a drive that's already 2 hours long...plus we were extremely tired and since lunch is not included, super hungry, so we really did not appreciate this. (It also did NOT land well to have him WhatsApp me a link to review the tour immediately after that stop had occurred, while we were still in the car and in disbelief over what had just happened.) So the tour ended on a rather sour note. Despite our request to be home by 5, we ended up being home at quarter after, in between meal times. So we had to wait over an hour still to eat, which was frustrating. Also for those expecting a quiet or peaceful ride, know that calls will be taken and made for the majority of the time. While this wasn't ideal, what was worse for me was the club music playing the whole time that was not of our taste. This made it a bit more unpleasant than it had to be, but I recognize this may not bother everyone. Otherwise, Nigel was a great tour guide who took the time to point out local plants, trees, and crops, even stopping to let us sample some local fruit like coconut and star apple, which we loved! He also took a beautiful scenic country road after YS Falls towards Appleton's, which was absolutely beautiful. YS Falls definitely exceeded our expectations, and the Appleton Estate was all that we'd hoped it be and more! One final note is that Nigel was coming from Montego Bay, so the drive for him was extra long to get us in Negril. Having known that we would have booked a tour operator out of Negril. All the above said, we still highly recommend this experience! Thank you again Nigel!

It actually wasn't the tour operators fault, but we didn't end up going to Blue Hole & Secret Falls. I didn't realize it when I booked this tour, but Blue Hole & Secret Falls is a 4-hour drive from where we were staying in Negril. Our private guide for the day, Adrian, was absolutely willing to take us to Blue Hole & Secret Falls, but no one in my group wanted to sit in a car for four hours one way and another four hours back. Adrian pivoted very quickly and suggested another destination that was closer to Negril - YS Falls - which is about 90 minutes away from Negril and just as beautiful. Adrian was a wonderful guide/driver. We enjoyed talking to him about the culture, the people, the language and the food of Jamaica. When we got to YS Falls, he took care of everything and told us to spend as much time enjoying YS Falls. On our way to YS Falls, we talked to Adrian a lot about Jamaican patties and what he thought were the best patties (my husband's family is Jamaican so he's grown up eating patties). Since we didn't do a full-day tour, Adrian got the okay from the tour company to take us out to lunch at a local patty shop that he deemed to be the best patty. While our tour didn't go according to the description, we ended up designing our own tour and it turned out to be a perfect day. We didn't spend the most of the day in the car. We saw and experienced beautiful YS Falls. We dined on delicious patties. We had an amazing driver and company for our outing!

If you're looking for a worry-free and reliable airport-hotel transfer in Jamaica, I would definitely recommend Andre and his team. Upon our arrival to Montego Bay airport, Andre's team members were there to greet us with my name on a placard and our driver, Marc, picked us up right at the curb. When we were leaving Jamaica, Andre arrived early at our hotel and was waiting for us to finish checking out before we left for our return to the airport. Their vehicles were spacious and clean. Andre and I communicated via text the day before our scheduled return to MBJ. He originally scheduled us for a 10am pick-up, but I informed him that we wanted to leave a little earlier just in case (at 9:30am) and he was willing to work with our timeline without any issue. The best part of our airport transfers though, was Andre and Marc. It is an approximately 2-hour drive from MBJ to the West End of Negril. Andre and Marc were both incredibly friendly and told us a lot about Jamaica, the people, the culture, the customs, the food and the geography of the island. It felt more like we were on a tour of the island than simply an airport transfer; we learned so much about Jamaica from both of them! It made the 2-hour drive seem so much quicker. I would absolutely use again and recommend Road Travel Jamaica Tours for an airport-hotel transfer. In fact, if my teenage child ever decided to go to Jamaica for spring break with friends while in college, I would entrust Andre and his team to take care of getting them to their destination and airport. This was by far one of the dopest bar crawls I’ve been on. The bars we visited were awesome, the people that owned or worked them were so nice. The prices are pretty cheap which is great. I highly recommend this bus tour if you’re looking to visit less touristy areas of Negril and get a real feel for the community. You won’t be disappointed. 😀

We stayed in Negril so we had a really early day with pick up. From our pick up driver to drop off that night was amazing! It's an all day event if you stay in Negril and you do the river falls and Bob Marley tour but WORTH IT!!best 100 bucks spent on the island

Driver was awesome! Drive from Negril was a great way to take in Jamaica and the locals. Great pics and sight seeing. Lunch included and was our first time trying Jerk Chicken. Full day of fun at the falls and Bob Marley's tour was awesome and a once in a lifetime experience.

We booked this tour last minute before leaving the U.S. to head to Negril, Jamaica. We are so glad we did! We were picked up at our hotel (unfortunately I can't remember our driver's name, but he was from Reggae Tours) and taken the two hours to Appleton Estate. Along the way our driver told us about the history of Jamaica, its agriculture (he stopped to point different things out like coconut trees, plantains, banana trees, etc), and its food. We stopped for pattis (my partner and I both got the chicken pattis) and they were delicious! At Appleton, our driver got us checked in and wristbanded. We had a welcome drink while waiting for the tour. A cruise group came in and needed to go before us (they were on a tight timeline), which was fine because the staff came over and explained it to us. Plus the delay allowed us to get a second drink to take on the tour with us! Our tour guide was Romain who was excellent. When he told us he had only been working there 3 months, it was hard to believe because how great of a tour guide he was. The tour is very informative and fun - along the way you get to try sugarcane, sugarcane juice, and molasses. Of course, the highlight is the rum tasting at the end! We tried three different types of rum - the signature, the 8 year, and the 12 year. After the tour at Appleton, we reunited with our driver and were taken back the two hours to Negril. I recommend this tour if you want to see a different part of the island. The views of the mountains, especially on the drive back, are incredible.

We booked this excursion for my husband, 2 of our kids (ages 10 and 14), and myself while we were in Jamaica. Our driver Mark picked us up in Negril at 7am and spent the next 13 hours escorting us all over for the various activities. We couldn't have asked for a better travel companion than Mark. He was kind, patient, knew everything, was a safe driver, and knew all the good food spots for the day. While we had a blast with the horseback riding. Dunn Falls, and especially the White River (Thank you to Junior for saving us!), the highlight of the day was Mark.

This was my favorite excursion during our stay in Negril. Big shout out to our driver, Clinton, and our tour guides. Unfortunately, I forgot their names, but these guys were very cool and down to earth. They did a great job at making sure we were safe and comfortable. There’s so much to see and explore on this trip that it’s breathtaking; from the many fruit trees and crops to the free range animals and the rolling hills and the Roaring River. The community is welcoming and friendly. The Rastasafari tour was an amazing experience that we’ll never forget.

We were very happy with our experience getting from Sangster airport to Negril. Andre was great, we talked the whole way and he provided a lot of information about Jamaica. They also provided some drinks which was nice and unexpected. The roads are in relatively poor condition but he did his best to make us feel comfortable. Definitely recommend using DG Tours. They also gave us a ride to Rick’s Cafe and YS Falls at a reasonable price. Both Andre and Denar are very knowledgeable and will work with you on your preferences.

Sean Lewis Taxi... What do I say about Sean? Sean was not just a driver, he turned into a tour guide and a friend. Sean picked us up from the airport and took us to our resort in Negril. He's cheerful and full of knowledge about the Island. He talked about some touristy things to do as well as things that might be off the beaten path. Sean has a lot of connections, so he's able to get a good price on things you'd like to do. So, we used him again to go to YS falls, Appleton Estate and Pelican bar. Sean will come with you to the falls. He'll hook you up with a tour guide who carefully maneuvers you on the slippery rocks. He'll take your pictures and most importantly make sure your stuff is safe while you're exploring. After Appleton, our last stop was Pelican Bar. He has a friend who owns a boat so he contacted him and we were off into the ocean and out to a bar a mile off the coast. We made sure Sean came with us because we really enjoyed his company. But he would/will stay behind on any excursion if you'd like. He's not pushy. The best part was when he stopped and got of the car and said I'll be right back. He bought us Jamaican Patties. Omg!!!! So good. We also used Sean to take us back to the airport. When he picked us up, her presented us with a frozen 12 pack of patties to take home. 💕 You will not be disappointed with Sean Lewis Taxi

Husband & I had a great experience with YJTG. We stayed in Negril, and we had originally booked a tour to ochos ríos/dunn’s falls. The company contacted us well in advance to let us know that that travel was 3 hours one way, and gave us the option of booking this trip instead if we preferred something closer. We really appreciated this, and took them up on their offer. We chose to go to YS falls, Appleton rum estate, and pelican bar. Our driver Adrian was early picking us up from our hotel and made sure we got around safely, giving us some background along the way. We stopped for a local spot for lunch that he recommended, which was both cheap and delicious (we got stewed pork and curry chicken). Ar was well-air conditioned, spacious, and spotless. Adrian even cleaned the floors while we were doing activities so it would be clean again when we got back. We would happily book with YJTG and Adrian again. As far as the excursion items: - YS falls: very organized set up and the falls are beautiful. the individual guides for each group (in this case, husband and I had our own) led us through the swimming areas, showing us where to step on the submerged rocks and how to use the rope swings, and taking plenty of photos for us without us even asking. We weren’t able to swim at the last set of falls due to the currents being too strong from recent rains, but we still enjoyed ourselves regardless. Of note, some of the waterfall areas are not recommended for non-swimmers, but there are other shallow swimming areas for children/non-swimmers. - Appleton rum estate: to our surprise, this was actually our favorite of the 3. We knew absolutely nothing about rum and Appleton does a great job of walking you through the entire process, and you get to taste/participate in the steps. We enjoyed the rum to the point that we bought some Appleton rum at duty free later on, something we never do. - Pelican bar: the only way to get there is by boat, which picked us up from Adrian and took us back later (after asking us for an approximate pick up time). we would’ve probably enjoyed pelican bar more if the weather was sunnier, as it’s a cool little bar in the middle of the water. There are drinks/food for sale, and the water around the bar is shallow enough to stand in. Overall, we enjoyed this set of excursions and would recommend it to others!

YSFalls is absolutely beautiful. We loved the pool, grounds, falls and lunch. The Safari was fun, pretty & very interesting. The only thing we didn't like was it was 2 hour ride from negril. Also since it rained day before the water was brown & current was rapid. I was scared to go in water. Alot of people were going in & the workers were extremely helpful & accommodating. We were still glad to visit there during our vacation.

We had a fantastic time with our excursion. This was very much in part to Cedrick our AWESOME guide. I do not know if you can request specific guides, but if you can, we cannot stress enough how Cedrick made this day wonderful. We wanted to try more food and experience more of the Jamaican foot and Cedrick made that happen. He helped us to try the non-resort side of Jamaica throughout the day. We tried great pattys, fruit, chicken, pork, and more! HIs outlook on life, great conversation, and general demeanor made everything top notch. We ended up doing the Appleton Rum Estate, Y.S. Falls, and the Pelican Bar on our day. All of the experiences were wonderful and there is not one that stands out above the rest. Driving around the southwest coast of Jamaica is something beautiful and lets you get a real feel for life on the island. Please understand that this is a full day trip and you will be driving for a couple of hours if you are coming from Negril or other areas. The vans were cozy and comfortable and as we cannot say enough, our guide Cedrick made the time fly by. All in all we would definitely use this service again the next time we are in Jamaica.

The Falls were magical. Well worth the drive from Negril. Our tour guide and driver, Robert “Bob” Graver, from “Know Jamaica Tours” was fantastic. He arrived early at our hotel and told us all about the various places we saw as we drove to the falls. He even took us to a great road side restaurant for awesome jerked chicken and pork. We really enjoyed this tour and will remember it as one of our best trips in Jamaica.

Greg was the driver for this tour...he was awesome very knowledgeable, polite, and super understanding of our wants as tourists in Negril. He even hooked us up with the contact info so that we could book another tour with them so that I could find the jerk pork and KFC that I was looking for on vacay. ODane was the driver for that tour and omg it was amazing...we had simply asked to go to KFC and find some jerk pork and he really delivered, added in a waterfall stop/tour that was amazing and really entertained us the whole journey!!! So excited to come back to JA to link up with these guys again! Definitely book with them for Whatever you need!

Book it at the last min and there where able to Accommodate my hubby and I. They have a very long trail. Went through water, a tunnel it was great . Orlando the life guard in natural pool was so great. He convinced us to get it and told us where to sit in the pool to get the best benefits. Even gave us more places to visit in Negril,took our pictures, very personable and told us about himself it was great to see Jamaican hospitality. Supper nice guy. He’s the only one who took the time to get to know us. Would definitely recommend 10/10.

Odane was a good guide, friendly, obliging and considerate. We took the tour in our own time and were not pressed to hurry up. Finishing off at the Pelican Bar to watch the sunset and get our names carved into the bar was good way to round the trip off. You can probably google his website if you want to ask him any questions about the tour or the costs. I’m glad we did the tour with all four stops on it, it took about 12 hours from leaving the hotel in Negril to getting back there in the evening so it was a long day but good. The Appleton tour was interesting and made me appreciate why some rums cost more than others, YS falls were nice, we didn’t stop there long enough to swim there, either in the falls themselves, or in one of the pools near the base of the pools - we decided that lunch and longer at the Pelican bar were more important! The Crocs get up close on the Black River Trip. The trip lasts about an hour and you get to see some crocs, mangrove swamps and some interesting wildlife. All in all, if you’re going to spend the money on a private tour, I can recommend Odane, in fact we even booked our trip to Kingston Airport through him and turned it into a bit of a tour stopping off at the Bob Marley museum and seeing some of Kingston.
