SEA LIFE® Sunshine Coast
The basics
SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast is a family-friendly and educational attraction that kids in particular will love. Many visitors wander through at their own pace, but there are also scheduled activities to enjoy, such as animal feedings, keeper talks, and behind-the-scenes tours. If you’re in the area for a few days, there are also scheduled beach cleanups organized by the aquarium, where you can help conserve beautiful spots on the Sunshine Coast.
SEA LIFE is on the Sunshine Coast, conveniently located near both Brisbane and the Gold Coast, so can be visited on a day trip even if you’re not staying on the Sunshine Coast itself. Most travelers visit independently so they can go at their own pace. Tickets can also be purchased for special activities like diving with sharks.
Things to know before you go
- Allow at leat around 90 minutes to tour the aquarium.
- SEA LIFE is wheelchair accessible, with ramps connecting the three levels.
- Check the website for up-to-date information on talks being held during your visit. There are multiple sessions every day.
How to get there
SEA LIFE is in the town of Mooloolaba, on the Sunshine Coast. Most people visit while staying in Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast itself. From Brisbane, self-driving or taking a train are most convenient; the journey is about 90 minutes. If staying in or around Mooloolaba, the aquarium is a short walk from the Mooloolaba Esplanade.
Trip ideas
When to get there
SEA LIFE is open five days a week from Thursday through Sunday, with the exception of major public holidays. It typically shuts in the mid-afternoon, so it’s best to come in the morning or early afternoon to avoid disappointment. During Queensland school holidays, opening hours are a bit longer. This is a great attraction to reserve for days when the weather isn’t so good outside.
Dine at Parkyn Parade Seafood Precinct
For a different kind of sea experience, dine at the Parkyn Parade Seafood Precinct while staying in Mooloolaba. The precinct is a working port, and the best place to buy fresh seafood in Mooloolaba. The Sunshine Coast town is especially famous for its prawns. You can eat at the precinct, or take some to go and find a shady spot on the beach.
