Blenheim Palace

Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England, OX20 1PP

The Basics

Visitors can choose between two tickets: One provides access to the park and gardens only, while the other grants access to the park, gardens, and palace. The latter includes guided tours of the Palace State Rooms and access to the Untold Story interactive exhibit, which traces the palace’s long history. The Churchill Exhibition explores the life story of the former English prime minister through photographs, letters, and artifacts and is also included with palace admission.

Audio guides are available for a small extra fee, as are special seasonal tours. Visitors can explore the palace independently or go as part of day tours from London, Oxford, or Bournemouth. Day tours typically combine a visit to Blenheim Palace with trips to nearby Cotswolds villages, such as Bampton, Bibury, and Bourton-on-the-Water.

This is not the tour to see DowntonAbbey mansion! Only the villiage including the church, the hospital etc. The palace to visit during this tour is Churchill’s birthplace. The tour was great.

Downton Abbey Village, Blenheim Palace and Cotswolds Day Trip from London
Wonderful day trip! Highly recommend! It's run by Evan Evans tours and our guide Andy (Andrew) was lovely. I thought the Cotswolds would be my favorite part, but Blenheim Palace is magnificent! Absolutely worth the long day trip!

Blenheim Palace; excellent place to visit; cannot say much for downtown Abbey since I do not follow the movie and/or tv show. Fish and chips restaurant was very good; tour operator very knowledgeable.

3-Hour Private Luxury Car Tour from Oxford to Blenheim Palace
We had a lovely afternoon at Blenheim Palace and also visited Woodstock and Churchills grave. Jonathan gave us some of the history to put things into context. Jonathan helped us arrange a wheelchair and buggy pickup in the handicapped parking area.

'Downton Abbey' TV Locations and Blenheim Palace Tour from London
Really enjoyed seeing parts of the Cotswold area on the way to Brampton where scenes from Downton Abbey were filmed. We knew High Clerc was closed to visitors on this day but we were given plenty of notice to cancel if we chose to do so. We took the tour with Tony and he more than made up for it with all of the tidbits he shared about the filming of Downton and showing us Bampton. The tour of Blenheim Palace was excellent as well. A very skilled guide.

A great way to spend a day outside of London. Driving around the Cotwalds countryside was beautiful. Visting Blenheim Palace and learning about Winston Churchill and his family's history was interesting. seeing where they filmed the village scenes for Downton Abbey was a highlight. The guide was very knowledgeable and personable.

Blenheim Palace Tour and The Cotswolds Day Trip from London
Very good combination to visit the Blenheim Palace, and an introduction to the Cotswolds. The Blenheim Palace deserves more introduction so more people know about and visit. It’s more beautiful than some of other famous castles. The tour drives through Cotswolds which gives good introduction to plan for a further longer visit.

When to Get There

Exploring the Gardens and Grounds

While the palace itself is the main attraction, there is just as much to see in the surrounding gardens and park, portions of which were designed by the famous landscaper Lancelot “Capability” Brown. Ride a minitrain to the Pleasure Gardens, where you’ll find a butterfly house, an adventure playground, and the Marlborough Maze, comprised of thousands of yew hedges. Walking trails around the park lead to other sights, such as the Temple of Diana, where Winston Churchill proposed to his wife, and the Grand Cascade waterfall.
