Giverny

Rue Claude Monet, Giverny, 27620

The Basics

The best way to visit Giverny is on a day trip from Paris. All tours cover Monet's home (Maison et Jardins de Claude Monet)—a pastel-pink house flanked by gardens filled with flowers and a famous Japanese bridge—and the Museum of Impressionisms (Musee des Impressionnismes), dedicated to various forms of impressionist painting.

Other tours combine Giverny and Monet’s house with a visit to the Palace of Versailles or Auvers-sur-Oise, the village in which Vincent van Gogh spent his final days. Garden bike tours are another option for active travelers.

Giverny and Monet House Half-Day Guided From Paris
lovely drive to Giverny - the gardens, lily pond and house were beautiful - only 2 hours there though, should have been longer, as crowds were insane, 20min wait on queue to visit house, 10 min wait for toilets ... no time to buy at gift shop, which i really wanted to do

Giverny & Monet's House From Paris Audio Guided Half-day Tour
I booked this tour because Giverny was on my bucket list and it did not disappoint. Our sunny June day in the gardens was “magnifique.” Monet’s home is also a masterpiece. The bus ride was comfortable and the guides were friendly. Well worth the cost for comfortable transportation to this landmark near Paris.

Private Tour: Rouen and Giverny Day Trip from Bayeux
As other reviewers have stated, we spent a lot of time in the car. Giverny was fantastic and our guide was incredibly helpful in getting through the crowd and making our visit there enjoyable. Gardens and house were amazing and the timing of our visit perfect for seeing unbelievable gardens. We felt like we were in a Monet painting!. Rouen was a bit disappointing. Not much there, even for Joan of Arc fans. Our guide made our long day a lot of fun.

Versailles Palace and Giverny Monet House Guided Visit with Lunch from Paris
Great tour guides, wealth of information. The bus’ air conditioner wasn’t working properly. Wish we had more time at Giverny. We were unable to go into his house. Lunch was fabulous and the restaurant was picturesque.

Our trip to Giverny and Monet's Gardens was perhaps our best day in Paris. We were so impressed with our tour guide and his knowledge of the town, Monet and the surrounding areas. Monet's Gardens are like a dream and more beautiful than we actually had expected. What a wonderful day and experience.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • A Giverny tour is ideal for art enthusiasts, especially impressionism fams.

  • The journey to Giverny, along the banks of the Seine River and through the sunflower fields of Normandy, is almost as good as the destination.

  • There are no ATMs or currency exchange bureaus in the village, so be sure to bring cash.

  • Although accommodations are available, the village's small size means availability is limited; book in advance if you plan on staying overnight.

  • Giverny and Monet's Garden are partly accessible for wheelchair users although Monet's House is not.

When to Get There

Between November and Easter weekend, Monet's house and the majority of Giverny's restaurants and guesthouses are closed to the public. Although very busy in the summer months, large tour groups fail to make the hamlet any less beautiful. Arrive early for the best experience.
