The Basics

The best way to experience Seattle’s top gastronomic attraction is by sampling your way through it. Guided tasting tours, cooking classes, and cultural walking tours of the market are all excellent ways to take in the sights and sounds, try a little bit of everything, and find spots you may have missed on your own. You can even book an early-access tour to avoid the crowds or take a chef-guided food tour for professional guidance.

Snack Safari in Pike Place Market
This was the perfect introduction to Pike Place Market for me. I ended up going to so many spots I never would have if I had not been recommended by Will, which made my time in Seattle so much more enjoyable. I learned a lot about Pike that I never would have expected as well. What a foodie city!

Pike Place Market Tasting Tour
We had an amazing time exploring the market with Nola. She was so knowledgeable and friendly, she made navigating the market and meeting vendors a breeze. Her stories about the history of the market as well as all the stops we made were great. We left full of delicious food and a new found love of the market. We definitely recommend this tour and Nola - it was a perfect way to spend the morning

Pike Place Market Tasting Tour
We had a great time on the tour of Pikes Place! Our tour guide, Chip, was knowledgeable. The food was great, but don’t expect the amount to fill you up for a meal like the post says. We got about 8 samples from around the market. Pretty typical places, nothing crazy different.

Great Food, Great Tour Guide

Plant Based Food Tour in Pike Place Market
Will was an amazing guide. Not only was it great plant based food, but great history. Will has a good relationship with the different establishments to make vegan alternatives, if they didn't already have vegan menu items. My absolute favorite was the vegan queso with nachos. Yum! And this is not a scam lol. I couldn't initally find the tour group and thought I got scammed. So this ended up being a running joke for the rest of the group. It was a really good time.

When to Get There

Because the majority of the action at Pike Place Market takes place indoors, it’s a great place to visit all year-round. The market is open from dawn to dusk and is always bustling, but you can often avoid the crowds by visiting on weekday mornings.

Classic Fish Throwing at Pike Place

One of the most entertaining spectacles are the seafood stalls, where fishmongers throw salmon and other fish to each other rather than passing them by hand. When a customer places an order, an employee at the ice-covered fish table picks up the fish and theatrically hurls it over the countertop so it goes flying through the air to another employee who catches it and preps it for sale. Vendors can pack fish for travel and most ship throughout the US.
