Coogee Beach
The Basics
The welcome blue waters of Coogee Beach mark the end of the spectacular Bondi-to-Coogee coastal walk. You can make the roughly hour-long walk by yourself or with a private guided tour that introduces you to the landmarks—and some of the characters—along the way and has the added benefit of including breakfast and lunch. Other tour options include visiting as part of a trike motorcycle tour of the eastern beaches, or flying over it in a helicopter.
Things to Know Before You Go
Coogee Beach is a must-visit for those wanting to soak up Aussie beach culture.
There are lockers and showers available for use.
There’s plenty of space for barbecuing.
Stretches of lawn shaded by Norfolk pines offer inviting spots to rest.
The lifeguard-patrolled beach is a relatively safe swimming spot.
How to Get There
The coastal walk from Bondi Beach is around 3 miles (5 kilometers) long and takes around an hour. Alternatively, it’s around a 15-minute taxi or 45-minute bus ride. Travel times are similar from the city center.

When to Get There
Coogee Beach is attractive year-round, but Sydney is at its most appealing from September through November and from March to May. These months avoid both high and low seasons and promise comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds. Ocean baths (open saltwater pools connected to the sea) are open from sunrise to sunset.
Ocean Baths
For a really safe swim, dip your toes in a walled ocean bath, which offers particularly calm waters protected from the strong Pacific waves. Wylie’s Baths is a few minutes’ walk south of Coogee, and city-owned McIver’s Baths, which is Australia’s only remaining women-only seawater bath, is perched on the headland between Coogee Beach and Wylie’s Baths.
