The basics

When restoration on the building began in 1975, archeologists were able to pull thousands of personal items out of cracks and from beneath floorboards. This collection, together with displays and stories, now make up the museum and teach visitors about the living conditions of the thousands of men and women who once lived here. There’s a heavy use of audio technology to tell the space’s history. A number of private and small-group tours come here, and it's a stop on the hop-on hop-of bus operated by Big Bus.

Terrific display and presentation of early experiences of convict men and later immigrant women. All so well thought out - both visual and audio portions brought it all to life. Thank you for preserving this history. A+

Loved the self guided tour. Have done this at other attractions and think its great. Really brings out the story and you knows you dont miss anything. Dont think this would interest smaller kids. My late-teen kids enjoyed it and found it moving

Highly recommend this self guided tour. It really takes you back to the time. All the sights and sounds whilst walking around really submerged you into the setting. A definite must when visiting Sydney.
