Most visits to The Hague include a trip to the city’s Scheveningen beach, where you can break up your swimming and sunbathing with a visit to the Sculptures by the Sea (Museum Beelden aan Zee) set along the beachfront promenade. Take in the large metal artworks scattered over a series of outdoor terraces and patios for free, or pop inside the museum to admire its vast collection of 20th-century sculptures displayed in glass-ceilinged underground galleries.

The outdoor sculpture gardens, patios, and terraces can be accessed for free, 24 hours a day.
The museum has restrooms, a cafè, and a gift shop inside.
Multilingual guided tours of Museum Beelden aan Zee’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions are offered daily at 1:30pm.
The indoor and outdoor museum spaces are entirely accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.
How to get there
Sculptures by the Sea (Museum Beelden aan Zee) is located along the Scheveningen beach just west of The Hague’s city center. Several tram lines run between the downtown and the beach or use the Park + Beach system to leave your car in the CS New Babylon or Malieveld parking garages and use the included public transport or bicycle sharing to reach the beach.

When to get there
The outdoor sculpture patios and terraces can be accessed for free all day and night, but the museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm and on some holidays. Located just steps from the beach, the museum offers a convenient break from the midday heat in the summer.

Its sandy length is bordered by a scenic promenade lined with beach clubs and restaurants, and The Hague Beach Stadium hosts beach volleyball and soccer games all summer.
