Lake Ashi (Ashi-no-ko)

Hakone National Park, Tokyo, Japan, 250-0521

The Basics

Lake Ashi sits in the volcanic crater of Mount Hakone’s volcanic crater. Aside from the natural beauty and holy Hakone shrine, the lake and surrounding area are known for its many hot springs (onsen). Japanese inns with spa bathhouses (ryokan) can be found in the area surrounding the lake, and many visitors take the opportunity to try traditional Japanese spa rituals here.

A popular tourist destination that's often part of day trips from Tokyo, Lake Ashi is also home to the Narukawa Museum of Art, plus restaurants and historic sites, such as the 400-year-young Old Tokaido Road lined with Japanese cedars, and the well-preserved Hakone Shrine. Traveling to Mount Fuji 5th Station on the Hakone Komagatake Ropeway cable car is one of the top activities to try in the area.

Private Tour: Chartered Car to Mt. Fuji Lake Kawaguchiko or Hakone and Lake Ashi
I took this tour with some friends and our families on our trip from the US to run the marathon. Misuzu was a wonderful guide. She gave us a lot of great insight, listened to our preferences and was very helpful/friendly. She made sure that we all had a wonderful day with great memories. We loved the viewpoints of Mt Fuji and all of the food was delicious. I highly recommend!

Mt Fuji, Hakone, Lake Ashi Cruise and Bullet Train Day Trip from Tokyo
Tour guide and driver were very pleasant and accommodating... lunch was worth it (especially if you have kids) because there's not many other options unless you pack your own lunch. Make sure you clarify what level will be open on the day you choose to go...we were only allowed level 1 which didn't bother us but others were disappointed... also please DO NOT BE LATE!!!... overall we enjoyed our journey...

Private Tour: Chartered Car to Mt. Fuji Lake Kawaguchiko or Hakone and Lake Ashi
Evi and Toshiaki are the dynamic duo. He knew all the secret spots and she spoke perfect English. We understood what we were looking at and the meanings along with the location. It’s more costly to do private tours but the convinience of it all is unbeatable.

Saqib took us around this...
Saangeet_G, Jan. 2023
1 Day Private Tour Mt. Fuji, Hakone and Lake Ashi with English speaking driver.
Saqib took us around this trip and was also our guide (which was additional charge). We told him we were here to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. He got us a very tasty cake and made us cut it beside a beautiful lake. Very humbling gesture. He was very polite and accommodating. I would highly recommend him to take one around as a driver. As a guide, he could have done better.

Hakone Shrine

Many Japanese consider Hakone Shrine a holy place. They’ve worshiped the hills around it for thousands of years as a place where souls of the dead travel onward to the next world. The shrine’s current incarnation is more than a hundred years old, and visitors can tour the buildings and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
